I use an ambilight system that works great on full screen content but not very well on pillarboxed and letterboxed content. I think an option to either extend/strech out the edge color of video or a blurred pillarbox effect to replace black bars in mismatched ratio displays would be an effective solution this problem.

This one was discussed many moons ago when 'ambilight' was front an center for a while, but the general consensus at that time was that most users would find the edge colour bars were a distraction, There used to be a media player that could have whatever pillar colour you wanted, but most of the time it was black. I understand you want a background colour that compliments an ambilight system, and zoom or full screen stretch isn't the best. But unless you can convince the overworked developers, I suspect this feature is going on the back burner again.
