I try googling it, but besides using VLC as an external player, or a dreamcatcher addon with many steps, I haven't found a straight answer.

I know you can record live TV with pvr. What I would like to do is record from an addon stream. For example, there are games played live with Foxsports go. I can watch the game live with no problem (I have a foxsportsgo account), but i wonder if you can record the live stream from the addon so I can watch it later.

Not without any fiddling.
As you stated, you need to use an external player and some other tweaks.
Its described in the forum if you search for it, but I get the impression you want an instant solution. There is none.
