That's an interesting question - in MadVR there is a HDR setting to allow "passthrough HDR to the display" and once the 4K HDR file starts playing the TV automatically switches to the right resolution and HDR appears on the screen to show that the file is playing, so I presume that this right. I also have the Nvidia settings to 10Bit display in the Nvidia control panel, it looks fine and I have it working for months this way - it just pops off the screen.

 10 bit visuals are also already made for Linux and intel - so in the future we will be able to output with 10 bit precission as well. I think going with providing a user parameter for the maximum NITS is a nice start for 95% of the users - we will see.
