New to Kodi Have Pi 2
#1
Hi all,

I am new to Kodi but have been reading for a few weeks looking at hardware options and completely forgot I was gifted a Raspberry Pi 2 Ultimate Starter Kit from Cana last year. (https://www.canakit.com/raspberry-pi-sta...e-kit.html) From what I can gather it seems like this will have most of what I need to get started.

A few things I have read mention overclocking it etc should I focus on getting everything set up before messing with overclocking etc. The kit did come with the heatsink and a few other things.

my goal is to ideally cut the cable cord in june when our contract is up and want to have everything up and smooth by then I will get a VPN as well.

Any and all advice is appreciated!

Just install LibreElec.

Personally I wouldn't bother overclocking. See how well it works for you first.

Kodi is not a replacement for cable. A lot of services on cable are subscription based and cost money. Kodi cannot legally provide these and we do not provide support for accessing pirated content on this forum.

A VPN is not required with the exception of accessing geolocked services from other regions maybe.

Awesome thank you for the clarification I obviously have some more reading to do!

I use the OSMC distribution. Advantages for me is that there is a proper Debian installation underneath, so I can SSH into my PI, add packages as I wish, do scripts etc. I just have more control. For the normal user you just get a nice stable HTPC.
I never bought cable, so I cannot say it replaces it, but I do know that I'll never buy cable! Smile

I've been using OpenELEC for the last year, but release quality seems to have decreased in the last few months. Therefore, I would advise LibreELEC instead.
