You could try adb.

Can't speak for the veracity of the methods mentioned, I don't have access to a shield device. But adb has saved me a few times on linux when my android phone will not allow file transfers via Dolphin.
Edit: I didn't realise there are different models of Nvidia shield. Obvious when you think about it after the fact, though. Anyway, nvidia have this for adb-ing to the newer shield models. https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/...r-adb-mode
