Practical advantages of Krypton?
#1
Hello: I'm wondering what advantages Krypton has over Jarvis. I know about the https:// capability, which may become essential in the future. Are there any other practical advantages? (speed, stability, compatibility, etc, etc)?

Thanks

Yes, I read this when Kodi 17 first came out, but it doesn't answer my question about practical advantages (speed, stability, compatibility, etc, etc).

Anybody know?

Thanks

Hello sktn77a,

Your question has been answered by @atlind01. You haven't actually asked further questions, just some roundabout statements.

Be more specific or else you will get silly answers like..

Speed- Skin dependent, Hardware dependent, influenced by background processes
Stability- Stable as ever. Stability is generally caused by individual setups and modifications
Compatability- with what? all compatible operating systems are listed ad naseum
etc, etc- no idea.

Jarvis is much faster and handles live tv signal disruptions better than Krypton - at least on a Raspberry Pi. For example, Jarvis takes less than a minute to boot up whereas Krypton takes more than 3 minutes. Krypton will freeze depending on the level of live tv signal disruption but Jarvis recovers very quickly.

I do like some features of the new skin Estuary. However I don't like the fact that the order of menu items on the left side panel is hard coded and cannot be changed.

My frustration with Krypton finally led me to go back to Jarvis. I got tired of fidgeting with technical issues and just wanted an enjoyable, stress free tv viewing environment.

IMHO I also think Jarvis is much faster than Krypton... so I really can't see any advantage upgrading.

Thanks. This is the kind of feedback I was looking for. I detest the estuary "interface" so unless there are some pretty compelling reasons to upgrade, I'll stick with Jarvis. (Yes, I know you can get the confluence skin on Krypton but if it's not, otherwise, significantly better, why bother?)

I'm not sure what that means. Huh

Anyway the exploit has been patched in kodi if you're on 17.2; it's been patched on the opensubtitles site; it's probably been patched on all the subs sites... there will always be exploits.
