H.265 HVEC stuttering
#1
Hello,

I run:

windows 10
Kodi 17.4 RC
GTX 660
Intel Core i7-4770 Quad-Core Desktop Processor 3.4 GHZ
16gb of ram.

problem:

HVEC videos tend to stutter. the CPU goes to 100%. it'll be fine for a minute or so and then start.

Is this a performance hardware issue? would a better graphic card help?

Is converting to H.264 the only solution?

or this : http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Modify_the_video_cache , playing with the video cache. Would dedicating a hard drive to this help? could it be an external drive?

Have a look here (specifically the 2nd post)...

Your current video card doesn't support x265 (even partially, hence the 100% CPU utilization), so your best bet would be to purchase a new video card.

Thanks bro. GTX 1060 on the way.

If it's only HTPC videos that you do and no games, get the GT1030. It's a fraction of the GTX1060 price.

It's half the price, would the GT1030 not limit me in future applications?

Might want to look at the GT1030 thread here...

And this thread, that points out the GT1030 might not be capable of 4K as it only has 2G of VRAM...
