I have just tried to update the kodi. I then changed the skin and now the home screen is blank? The date and time is there but nothing else, just a black bar going across the screen. What can I do?..[/php]

Which Kodi did you have and which Kodi did you update to?
Updates usually go wrong when skins are active that are not (fully) supported in the new(er) Kodi version.
Try backing up the guisettings.xml file, delete/rename the original, and restart Kodi.
