TV shows and .nfo files
#1
Hi,

Do .nfo files work? I have the following structure

MTVShows
 +Saturday_Night_Live
    +snl-x.mkv
    +snl-x.nfo

Content of snl-x.nfo:
---
http://www.thetvdb.com/?tab=episode&seri...205&lid=17
---

It's not getting the right show scraped

Just changing the name to 'snl-x-s43e05.mkv' (no .nfo file) would make it recognize the episode

What am I missing? I'm trying to follow http://kodi.wiki/view/NFO_files#Create_a...mmended.29

Yes it does. Two issues...

1. Your TVDB link goes too far. You have gone into Episode Edit Try https://www.thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=76177&lid=17 which is the link for TV Show main page
2. This should not apply, but if you are still using TVDB Scraper v1.8.5 (you shouldn't be) then it won't recognise https. You have to drop the s for http

Parsing nfo is what you should be looking at... http://kodi.wiki/view/NFO_files#Parsing_nfo

I already dropped the 's' in 'https'

The link is for the TV show main page. I don't have problems scraping the main TV show. But with the .nfo file I'm trying to identify the *specific* tv episode.
Is it not possible? (other than by changing the name of the .mkv file)?

Nope, that is not possible AFAIK. Foldernames can be anything as long as you have a 'tvshow.nfo' pointing to the right show, but episodes are scraped based on their filename. That means that you have you use something like "SNL-S43E05.mkv".
You can add the episode title behind the season- and episode number but would be merely for your own convenience.
I think all righthtinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired.

Ok.. thanks for the confirmation.
Can somebody explictely mention this in the wiki? It would be a nice feature to have.

I'm forced to rename many episodes files when there are specials in the middle. Since TVDB follows its own numbering.

BTW, why did the specials numbering changed from 94 to 590?

Can't answer your last question as we are not TVDB. Best ask them.

Don't understand the issue with Specials. You want them, or don't want them in the middle of a Season.

It won't be a Feature that will be considered. If you don't like the naming or numbering of episodes, then simply create your own nfo files and number them how you like.

I cannot have them in the middle of the season, right? They need to go under a different category: 'specials'

My problem is that I get the episodes numbered after the specials, e.g. special = s04 , normal = s05, but TVdb numbers the normal as s04
The whole point would be to have a .nfo file for the episode since I don't like renaming files. But it seems this is not supported.

The location of specials is dictated by the fields in the following image where the arrows are pointing to. Yes, many Specials do belong in amongst normal season episodes, and some don't. If you are having problems with Specials location, then these are the fields to check at TVDB. Be aware that only one field has an entry, not both

TVDB, won't number a regular episode with the Special prefix- s04. If it is, then it is a special, and needs to be slotted into the normal seasons by using those fields in the above image. If that is not possible, usually because the show is locked at TVDB, then that is when nfo files come in handy. You scrape the data using a Media Manager, then you simply edit the nfo file to insert the correct numbering.

In my case,
https://www.thetvdb.com/index.php?tab=ep...id=6340376
TVdb shows 'airs before' = '43x04 Larry David/...'. But when I look in Kodi it doesn't make a difference. I have to go to the specials section to see that episode

I meant that the .mkv files I usually get from a friend would get a name like s04e06, but they are really s04e04 according to TVdb. Adding a .nfo file is not useful for a correct scrap. I have to change the name of the file from s04e06 to s04e04. It's doable, but I'd prefer to be able to add a .nfo file for each episode with the bad name

It is best to fix the bad naming problem, rather than trying to override it with parsing nfo files, (which wont work at episode level anyway)

If you want to use nfo files for episodes, then you need a full metadata nfo file along with the tvshow.nfo

How is your library displayed? Have you flattened out your TV Shows which shows all episodes in one big list, or do you get a list of Seasons, then you click a Season to view the episodes?

I get seasons, and insde season folders, I get the episodes, including the Specials. I also get The specials I also get in another folder 'Special'

YEs, I understand .nfo files are not supported per episode (I would like that feature). How would metadata work (is it documented someplace)?
