I know this has been requested in the past but I don't see anything in the stickies or any recent discussion about this topic.

All of the new-ish video player player/streaming options (amazon prime, netflix etc) seem to have a video or longer animation playing in the background as you browse for movies/tv shows and it looks rather cool.

I know Kodi has an option to use gifs as backgrounds but those are only limited to ~3 seconds. 
Would be cool if we could either do longer gifs or better yet use h264 clips as backgrounds
