I have the official LE on an x86_64bit box.
Even with default action set to 'Info', it still plays the movie.
Tv Shows (and clicking episodes) or pressing 'I' gets info dialog OK.
The database works fine on a Windows kodi 17 build.
They both drag SQL from same SMB linked NAS.
Kodi advancedsettings.xml has relevant path mapping for passwords etc., but just won't display infos in normal way. I can use context menu then select Information and it displays.. very odd and stumped!!??
/welp!
SOLVED: Add the library via LibreELEC NOT Windows. So from this I'm guessing there is path translation issues, probably a letter case is not matching from windows, as ofc. Linux is V fussy about case, ie. Z:.ThIS/pAth will work on windows as z:/this/path but not Linux.

I've just tested LE 8.2.3 x86_64 and "Default select action" is working correctly for me. If "Default select action" is set to "Show information" then clicking select/OK on a movie in the Movies home page or Movies library view will show the Info page. Change it to "Play" and select/OK will now commence playback.
Do you have a custom remote.xml? Can you upload a debug log (where you have configured "Show information", but select/OK still begins playback)?

Just doesn't seem to want to play ball on LE, I created a test SQLdb with less items.
Deleted all old SQL schema.
Reset the boxes, and now Movie Information won't show from videodb level of Kodi.
They all work fine from home screen.
Something is getting messed up at MyVideoNav.xml level, ie. once browsing librarys.
Winblows works fine (as per ..).
I haven't run an artwork downloaders etc. on this new db, and yet fails.
Seems random, as it toggles between tv/films which it isn't going to display infos for?... :S
Rebooting box doesn't toggle which works.
I've added DBs via smb and network mapped drive, still same results.
