I have recently acquired a new system for my Kodi Box, and I am experiencing choppy display in Kodi as a whole, not just when playing videos. Using the Xubuntu desktop and playing videos in vlc are OK.

Can anyone throw light on the situation?

Make sure proper i965-va-driver is installed and vaapi enabled in kodi. You should install the version from wsnipex vaapi ppa.

I installed the i965-va-driver from the wsnipex vaapi ppa. VAAPI is enabled in Kodi. I am still experiencing choppiness throughout Kodi, not just playing videos/live TV.

I was digging around in the system, and discovered that according to xrandr, my monitor is connected via Display Port, whereas I am actually using HDMI:

I solved this by forcing the xserver-xorg-video-intel video driver in xorg.conf

First I installed a newer Intel i965 driver from wsnipex's ppa, as suggested by fritsch:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:wsnipex/vaapi
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Then to force the system to use the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver rather than the one supplied by the kernel, I created a file in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ with the name "10-intel.conf" with the following content, as suggested by FernetMenta in another thread:
