Upgrading from XBMC 13 to Kodi Latest version
#16
CPU in this machine is an Intel i5-4670K @3.4GHz but does run cool overclocked to 4GHz
GPU is Asus GeForce GTX 760 DirectCU II OC 2GB GDDR5
8GB system memory

Should this be good enough?

I've tried a 41GB 4K film in VLC player and its very choppy and goes grey alot, but in MPC player it seems to work fine.

Thanks
Pete

I have heard to install a version inbetween then upgrade to the desired version, I may do this to avoid any potential loss.

Well, 4K is one thing but possibly 10-bit can be a challenge as your GTX760 is not likely able to decode that with hardware-acceleration, so it must be done via software/CPU.

No that's way too much steps in between.

I assume at this point I'm better to stick with 2160p x264 8bit videos until I upgrade to a video card that supports HEVC hardware decoding?

Glad you said that, wasn't looking forward to all that installing, lol.
What would you recommended installing in between?

Thanks

15-17-18 (Tiny Bingo! Rofl )

Kodi will retain the older local databases, so don't throw them away just yet (just in case...).

^^ you do need to start it once after each upgrade Wink

If you want v18 you can just skip v17

Your GTX760 is indeed getting a bit old in the current HEVC 10bit HDR landscape. As long as you plan to use Windows 7/10 you could try a simple $70-80 GT1030 card. FYI, the GT1030 card is not Netflix-compliant, should you want to use that later.

The GTX 1050 3MB or higher cards should drop in price now that the RTX 2080 is coming. However the 2070/2060 cards are already delayed... Rolleyes
There are also the AMD video cards... But it also depends on how deep your pockets are.

well i own a GTX 1060 and it literally pulls off everything for me , Tongue if you plan to buy something i won't recommend to pay a hefty price for RTX or GTX 1070-1080Ti series one , 1060 does a good job.

GTX 1060 Max Q-Design 6GB is good enough. anyways congrats for ur new 4K TV.
