I notice Rick Phillips' (rukk) YOUTUBE-DL CONTROL script add-on references app.video.baidu.com and v.baidu.com in extractor > baidu.py (there's also baidu.pyo).

Does this pose a malware risk?

youtube-dl Control is used by numerous add-ons, including CNN, Comedy Central, Funny or Die and others.

Can alternatives urls be used in place of the baidu ones?

This script only provides a Kodi front-end to youtube-dl project code.  If you have concerns about youtube-dl it probably is best to address it to the youtube-dl devs (ytdl-org on github).  AFAIK Baidu is just a Chinese Youtube so you're probably subject to all the analytics, tracking etc just like Google does with youtube.
