I'm interested in the newer Linux versions, but also like to install most of your nightlies. I thought at first that the newer Linux versions might stay in place, but installing a nightly reverts back to the older Linux version on the nightly.

The "weekly" kernal builds are for people to test new kernels and spot/report problems early. It also gives users with bleeding edge CPU/GPU hardware a chance to test LibreELEC when older kernels may not support their hardware. They also serve as a useful tool to help bisect issues that may be spotted only after the kernel is released.
