Release Kodi Matrix 19.0 HDR Windows API (merged)

Install the NVidia driver with the options in the post above and if tearing persists use advancedsettings.xml disableDXVAdiscretedecoder in Kodi. Your system may need it despite the GTX 10xx graphics.

I did this and still the same.

New info: When I pull up the taskbar(Windows button) the tearing stops. When Kodi is not playing anything, placing the mouse pointer on a weblink in my browser makes my TV flash between black and the browser. Installing Vanilla Kodi 19 Nightly does not cause this behaviour. Going back to v3.0 makes playback work flawlessly. So what is the difference between v3.0 and 3.7.1?

advancedsettings.xml disableDXVAdiscretedecoder option

As I told you previously, use this option for v3.7.1

Hi!

Thank you jogal for your continuous support! I haven't updated to Windows 2004 yet, but with the last version I'm experiencing tearing as in the past with a GTX1080, BUT, with disableDXVAdiscretedecoder it gets fixed Wink

I've also noticed the PVR addons are not working, but I read it is a problem also present in the main Kodi branch, so we just need to wait I guess.

I wanted to take the opportunity to also comment that the dithering option (Meant to eliminate banding in SDR when using a full RGB chain), doesn't seem to be working. I don't know exactly since when, but I think with Kodi 19 it has never worked on Windows (using nVidia). It works on Linux though. The thing is, during the time HDR was always ON in this Kodi branch, and nVidia was just changing automatically to SDR or HDR when needed due to the swapchain, SDR was played in SDR but forcing 12 bits (as with HDR) and that made banding dissappear completely. Now the HDR autoenable is propertly implemented but SDR is back to 8bits without dithering again. I don't mind if there was a possibility of forcing 12 bits again with SDR, but the best solution would be fixing the dithering itself.

Commenting this here just in case it is related with this branch, but probably I should report it also in the main branch I guess? anybody else has noticed this? (I use AVS HD 709 videos for testing).

Best!

Nothing changes when is playing SDR content 8 bit swapchain is used (same as master branch).

If exist a bug in SDR dithering (I don't know) exist also for master branch.

In the short term I don't think I'm going to look at this. Likewise assuming that some improvement could be made, the change would not be approved in the master branch...

@jogal

After a day of use, I have some feedback:

The issue I was having is not completely gone, rather intermittent: some times comes, some times goes.
The sluggishness is not as strong as it was. My pc its usable, thou a little annoying...

After some digging I came across a process that goes to the roof (relatively speaking) that may shine a light in whats happening.
Note the differences when Kodi and the Windows File Explorer is working.

Look for "Desktop Windows Manager" CPU usage:

1   Kodi + Windows File Explorer:     "Desktop Windows Manager"

2   No Kodi:   "Desktop Windows Manager"

3   Just Kodi, no Windows File Explorer:   "Desktop Windows Manager"

NOTE: It is also happening when I'm working with some other programs, not all the time, just at the moment of making some activities, i.e: with Google Chrome at the moment of saving a file and choosing location... and the weirdest, it es not all the time, nor all the times (always).

IMPORTANT: The sluggishness does not happen with Kodi. It always works flawlessly... Windows File Explorer could be crawling on its knees and Kodi works just fine.

I hope this be useful to further improve the performance of Kodi HDR.

@jogal

Since my upgrade to Windows 20H1 was such a disaster and I kept having all sorts of issues, I decided to try and jump to the "next" version of windows... you know, to give it a try.

I'm happy to report everything working GREAT with Windows 20H2:

Windows 10 Pro x64
Ver 20H2
OS 19042.330
Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2202.130.0

nVidia 451.48
GTX 1060
Kodi Windows HDR 3.7.1

... finaly, everything working as God intended Big Grin

With version 3.7.1 my movies are jerky, it occurs with 1080p or 4K movies, what is the reason for this? With the versions before that, everything worked fine.
The picture hacks every few seconds.

Hello jogal, do I understand correctly that you do not make own builds anymore? Is HDR now included as standard in the Kodi 19 Alpha?
