Kodi 18.5 audio issue on android TV
#1
Greetings all,

I have an issue with Kodi 18.5 on my new android TV. I bought Sharp 55BL2EA. My TV is connected to my AVR Yamaha HTR-6130 (old one but still rocking) via HDMI and SPDIF (optical). When I start any video audio is ok but if I pause it or download subtitles (which also pauses video) than

- on video with 2.0 audio is out of sync (when I press pause audio is still played for 2,3 sec after the picture is paused)
- on video with DD, DTS any 5.1 or 7.1 audio is paused and resumed with video but it is interrupted every 10 seconds and sometimes I can see on my AVR display blinks every time as it is trying to sync

If I, during playback, open settings - audio and turn off passthrough and turn it back on than everything is ok.

On Kodi settings are:

- Player -> Video -> Sync playback to display OFF
- System -> Audio -> Number of channels 2.0
                          -> Passthrough ON
                          -> all options below it enabled except DTS-HD

On my TV audio setting is set to AUTO and External Audio System. If I unplug SPDIF than I get no audio from my AVR (HDMI still connected).

Another question, less important, why can't I select resolution in Kodi bigger than 1920x1080P (TV is 4K)? Kodi on my PC can go up to 3840x1620p.

Thank you.

So I managed to solve few of issues mentioned above

- on video with 2.0 audio is out of sync (when I press pause audio is still played for 2,3 sec after the picture is paused)
SOLVED by turning off Stereo Upmix option

-If I unplug SPDIF than I get no audio from my AVR (HDMI still connected).
My old Yamaha doesn't support ARC hence no bi-directional HDMI for audio

Issue with surround video is still present. Same video plays fine on my Kodi on PC with surround setup.

if this SHARP is anything like SONY......

- Player -> Video -> Sync playback to display OFF
- System -> Audio -> Number of channels 2.0
                          -> Passthrough ON
                          -> all options below it enabled except DTS-HD
that's the problem, leave just AC3 and AC3 transcoding enabled

Thank you for your reply. I tried as you suggested but now I have same situation as with 2.0 video files. Audio is delayed by 1-2 seconds and my video DTS files are not reproduced in DTS.

DTS does not work on TVs that use MTK chipset, that's why we use transcoding. Can you install aida64 and tell us what is the SoC in that TV and which OS version it runs.

phew...... this seems to be mstar SOC, xiaomi use this also. Who knows what is broken on that. But this HW in 2020......... this is worse than MTK from 2015.
Can you try with just plain AC3 without a need for any transcoding and see if that helps with audio delay.

So let me summarise

AC3 Enabled
AC3 Transcoding Enabled
DTS capable receiver Enabled
- video plays fine when started and I can watch it till the end unless I pause it or rewind (rewind sometimes works without an issue)
If I pause it than sound stops up every 10 sec for 1 sec and my receiver screen flashes like it's syncing audio
While paused receivers changes from 5.1 DTS to stereo

AC3 Enabled
Everything else disabled
- video works without any issue while pausing

AC3 Enabled
ACE Transcoding Enabled
DTS capable receiver Disabled
- audio is delayed AFTER pausing video but sound doesn't stop like before

Regards.

so..... you do get DTS in first scenario?
Change to stereo when paused is normal.
But if you do get DTS than no need for that transcoding option.

Do you have 5.1 AC3 in that case?

Yes I have DTS in first scenario. I disabled transcoding and DTS is working but again audio stops for a second after pausing video. It's strange because it works flawless if I don't pause it. I collected a log and it shows these errors after pause:

look at the bottom of the page when replying.

And really hope that someone will be able to sort that out for you. This is "new" SoC on a scene but it has a working DTS which MTK crap can't do even after 5 years.

Yup I saw that's why I posted only small part. Anyway thank you for your effort. For now I disabled pausing during subtitle download...it's not a big issue because I can restore proper audio playback if I disable passthrough during playback and enabled it back on.
