TV shows in "Movies" ?
#1
Hi,
So, my Movies section in Kodi is my entire DVD archive. Some of these are DVDs of TV shows.
I cant seem to get the VIDEO_TS.NFO file to show the correct details in the Movies section in Kodi.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this not actually possible.
An exmaple is :
\\Server.local\DVD\Afro Samurai\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.NFO
Contains :
    https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/19544-afro-samurai
The DVD contains all 5 episodes.

When I view it in Kodi, it seems to have ignored the VIDEO_TS.NFO file and URL and instead shows different info.

Same goes for things like Desperate Housewives (dont judge me :-). Season 1 DVD set contains all 23 episodes.
I've tried linking to the main both URLs, the main one and the direct Season 1 URL. Neither show any information in Kodi.
https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/693-desperate-housewives
&
https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/693-desper...s/season/1

Is there a way to get this working ? Or do I have to move my DVDs of TV shows to "TV Shows" in Kodi ? That would be a pain.
Or do I have to create an entirely custom local NFO file with all the XML tags, not just the URL.
If so, is there a way to get the TV XML from the Movies DB in a raw format so I can edit the tags and make it look like a movie NFO file ?

Thanks!

Jon.

Ummm, yes. Why would you need to ask this? TV Shows are not movies, they are TV Shows.

Please use some of the links in My Signature below, especially the How To create Video Library.

Ok. Thanks.
So, let me ask the question a slightly different way.
I have all my DVDs under the same folder structure.

\\Server.local\DVD\AeonFlux\VIDEO_TS
\\Server.local\DVD\Afro Samurai\VIDEO_TS
\\Server.local\DVD\America Beauty\VIDEO_TS

This is a single source in Kodi as \\Server.local\DVD\

Am I right in thinking I can only set one content type for each source.
So, as I set the content type for \\Server.local\DVD\ as "Movies" it wont find TV shows in there ?
Do I have to move all the DVDs with TV shows out of \\Server.local\DVD\ and have a new \\Server.local\DVDTV\ directory for them, so in Kodi I can set that content type to "TV Shows" ?
Or is there a way to have TV show DVDs and Movie DVDs in the same directory structure ?

Thanks.

Correct. All explained in the wiki pages, along with visual examples

No, not if you want them scraped into the library.

Just a bit of advice, don't rip your dvd's to their native dvd folder structure, rip them into mkv files. Same quality but the convenience of a single file instead of dozens of files of folders.

Wonderful. Thanks for your help.
Its a bit late for the ripping .. I have about 1,000 DVDs ripped, many ripped decades ago, and the originals all in boxes in the loft. I used to use Windows Media Centre for many years and the best supported format was raw files. Plus I like to have access to the special features on the DVD.
I cant be arsed to re-rip them all now to MKV
:-)

Thanks again for your help.

Jon.

Sure, no problems. It was just a bit of advice. I was in a similar situation as you, but over the last few years I slowly re-ripped my DVD's and Blurays into single files. A single video file is easier to manage than lots of folders and files.
