How to view event log remotely?
#1
Hi

I've read the wikis but just can't find the answer to this.
I'm trying to investigate why various media files aren't being scanned via the movie.db scraper and they appear in the Event Log (though with no pathname which makes it rather harder).
The main trouble is that the log is *long*!
I was hoping to view it remotely from my PC and so looked in \\kodi-box\Logfiles but all I see is a zip file which doesn't seem to contain an Event Log as such nor anything containing the scraper failed events.

How can I easily remote view the scraper entries in Event log?

You don't want the Event Log. Look for the Debug Log

Ok thanks.
I enabled this but I still can't find it under the SMB share (the wiki says for Linux $HOME/.kodi/temp/kodi.log) but this doesn't appear to be valid for CoreElec, nor any of the other locations listed.

I installed the Kodi logfile Uploader but it complains the log file is >1MB.

A quick google search found this... https://discourse.coreelec.org/t/how-to-...-logs/6494

If that does not work, then hunt around the CoreELEC forums and you might find the location. CoreELEC is a fork of Kodi and a fork that I have never used. Once you find the location, let me know where it is and I will add it to the wiki page.

It should be /storage/.kodi/temp/kodi.log for CoreELEC.

Thanks, yes I know one can post log files to CE support but I didn't want to burden them, just view them locally.
Unfortunately it seems that /storage/.kodi/temp/kodi.log isn't visible via the SMB share so I've asked the CE folks about how to do it.

I knew there was a reason why I used the plain old media files! ;-)

Just access it using SSH with FileZilla.

After some struggling, Filezilla suddenly started to work and I copied the debug log file across.
The file is huge and is pretty hard to read.

But I managed to thin out some typical scanner errors (sometimes there are 12 log lines per file):

Is there a guide as to what all these errors mean?

Normally you would post the Debug Log at Kodi Paste Site and provide the link and we can try to spot any errors. Please don't post logs in the forum.

There is no guide to explain the errors, it is just experience over time.

First thing that I spot is the zero search results. This normally means a naming problem for your files and folders...
xml:
DEBUG: scraper: GetSearchResults returned <results></results>

You have a show named as follows which has not been added the library...
xml:
"smb://192.168.1.3/vol1/TV Shows 3/3 Minute Wonder - Microsoft Babies (Week 2)/", it won't be added to the library.

And the scraper is searching for this show...
xml:
DEBUG: FindMovie: Searching for '3 Minute Wonder - Microsoft Babies (Week 2)'

So your next step is to go to TheMOvieDB website, find the show and figure out what is the problem with the name.

Ok tx for the info. Sorry about the log. I didn't want to post up the entire log as it was so big, so thought it might be Ok to list a few samples.
I'll do some more digging!

After some more digging I think it's just going to be too much work for each file to diagnose the issue and then apply the necessary filename or folder name manipulations, and so I think I'll just have to go back to using the files directly. I can't believe that I'm the only person affected by this ...
Even following https://kodi.wiki/view/Naming_video_files/Movies is going to take rather a long time!

It'd be cool if there was an automated tool for movie files like mp3tag for music that could have some intelligent file lookup and metadata retrieval for tagging but I guess movies are all captured differently and so it's not possible ...
