Release Audio Profiles (for Kodi 18 and later)
(2020-12-07, 00:37)ckoro Wrote: Hi, I have a problem with auto-switching. Two profiles are set.
1. TV (HDMI)
2. 5.1 (Sound card in PC)

Profile set 1. TV as default at startup. The problem is as follows.

I turn on the PC => Start Kodi => AudioProfiles sets the profile 1. TV correctly, it even displays a change message = >> the sound does not come, there is no sound from the TV or other output ... then I go => Settings => System => One press down to Sound => Sound will start working without a problem without changing the sound output, just view the sound settings.

I tried to update all sound drivers, graphics card drivers, sound cards, install old drivers, official drivers from the manufacturer's website, download drivers using device manager, update Win, replace HDMI cable, reinstall Kodi, tested to version 17.6 - 18.9 - 19.0 BETA everywhere the same. Unfortunately, I did not find a solution anywhere, I started using AudioProfiles two weeks ago.

Windows 10-64bit
That's gonna be a tough one to troubleshoot.  TVs often all handle HDMI sound slightly differently, so it's possible that the TV isn't activating the HDMI sound until something is generated (or Windows isn't generating any HDMI sound connection until there is sound), and it's possible opening the sound options does that.  There is an expert option in Kodi to keep sound devices active (by sending an inaudible tone constantly to the device). That might help.  I'm not sure if AP saves that setting in the profile, so if you do add it, you might want to update your AP profiles too.  I'd also see if you can duplicate the problem using some other Windows program (i.e. set the sound to the PC card, do something, then change it to HDMI and see what happens).

The problem will not be on TV. The error also occurs with other outputs. Sometimes AudioProfiles sets the wrong output, at startup it sets the output that was not defined in AudioProfiles at all.
Example: Two profiles are set
1. TV (HDMI)
2. 5.1 (AnalogOutput)
Profile 1. should be set by force at start.
=> At startup, an undefined output such as DigitalOutput or another enabled in Win10 is set.

I would say that the AudioProfiles add-on has incorrectly labeled / named outputs, it has incorrect output IDs.

I tried sending an inaudible code to the TV. That was my first idea. Unfortunately without success.

I would like to add that this problem only occurs when starting Win10 and Kodi.
Power On PC => AutoStart Kodi => Problem with sound

But when the PC is on, I do not register this problem
PC On => Quit Kodi => Restart Kodi => Start Kodi => Sound works, AudioProfiles too

AP stores the profile you define and then "moves it" to active as needed. It doesn't set outputs unless you told it to in the profile. My first suggestion is that you delete all the AP profiles and settings (they are in userdata/addon_data/script.audioprofiles.  Then setup Kodi and confirm that it is working the way you expect, including any startup and/or restart activities. Only after that should you save the profile. Then do the same with the second profile. Then and only then should you setup any automatic rules.  If that does not help, I will need to see a complete debug log with both Kodi and AP debug logging enabled.

I'll probably have to send the whole debug log. I understand your description of behavior, but I can't explain where the error is. After your progress, you suggested something strange happened.

I deleted everything, started from the beginning.
I set everything only for profile 1 => Profile 1 set HDMI => Set Profile 1 when starting Kodi as default => Restart => AudioProfiles did not display a message and "Digital Output" was set as output ... output which I am never in the menu he did not choose or use it anywhere

By default Audio Profiles doesn't change the profile at startup if the one in use at shutdown is the one defined for startup.  There is an option in the settings to force the startup profile to be "activated" even if it's the currently active one.  If you haven't yet, you should check out the wiki page with all the information on the settings:

Is it possible that the addon change the audio profile on-the-fly? The problem: when i watch live-tv the tv channels sometimes switch to stereo (e.g. in commercials) and after that to 5.1 again

No, it's not. The addon is listening for changes in the Kodi state (start playing, stop playing, etc). It is not capable of monitoring the video/audio stream for changes in state.  Unless you have done something unusual or have some very strange equipment, your AV gear should be capable of handling a change from stereo to 5.1 during playback.

that's too bad   ;(

Yes my very strange A/V gear is NOT able to handle a change from stereo to 5.1 during playback. Thats why i need such a addon

Hi,
would it be possible to store the audio offset (latency delay compensation) with the audio profile?
I'm using a profile for HDMI which doesn't give me any latency issues, but I also have a profile for Bluetooth transmitter connected to the optic output.
I can adjust the audio offset but I only need/want it for the Bluetooth, not HDMI.
Cheers,
Luc

interresting for me is this feature: "option to automatically select a profile based on audio codec/number of audio channels used in stream"

I  have a similar setup (Win 10 + Equalizer apo, 2.1. setup for stereo music and 5.1. video) and did this:

1. Create 2 profiles with Audio profiles addon:
  - "5.1. Video" channel 5.1., stereo upmix NO
  - "2.1. Stereo" channel 2.1., stereo upmix YES

2. Auto Switch all video to "5.1. Video" and all music to "2.1. Stereo"

3. config.txt in APO EQ

# Dolby Pro Logic II Stereo upmix
If: inputChannelCount == 2
Copy: L=0.5*L R=0.5*R C=0.354*L+0.354*R LFE=0.354*L+0.354*R RL=-0.436*L+0.245*R RR=0.245*L+-0.436*R
EndIf:

Comments:
APO EQ is able to recognize only 2 or more than 2 channels. The music signal arrives with 3 channels (= no change), the video signal with 2 (= Dolby Logic upmix) or 6 channels (= no change).
btw: This logic above is the Dolby Pro Logic II Stereo logic.

The result?
Music runs with Stereo and Subwoofer (3 channels), Videos with 5.1.....if the signal is 5.1. than there's no change, if the video signal is stereo the upmix jumps in.
During 5.1. movies the 2.0 commercials jumped to the Dolby logic and then back....

That setup works for me quite well.

Hi pkscout,
first of all thanks a lot for this Add-On. This is in daily use and one of my main triggers for Kodi.....Audio Profiles together with APO EQ is the perfect combination for my setup. (WIN10 HTPC --> USB Multichannel DAC --> 5 channel power amp .... no AVR).

Question / request: do you plan auto switch for multichannel audio?

I'm hearing more and more SACD / DTS music and would like auto switch from stereo to 5.1.

Thanks!

You should probably take a look at the wiki for Audio Profiles.

https://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:Audio_Profiles

There is already an option to detect multichannel audio and change to a profile of your choice.

Where is this setting set? I can't find it in the system settings on either of my Kodi setups or in the Player preferences. If it's one of those things you set with the audio context menu when playing a video, I don't think I can store/retrieve those.

Hi pkscout,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I checked the wiki already and it seems working for videos only... I couldn't run it with multichannel music files.

@pkscout
yes indeed, it's in the video context settings but you can apply it to all video's. You can also set it in advancedsettings.xml. I think you can have an advancedsettings.xml per kodi profile so if I could switch kodi profile from within audio profile then that might work.
Advancedsettings.xml is a global setting so I have to change it back if I go back to HDMI because there I don't have the latency problem.

Luc
