Win Alternatives To WMC In Windows 10
#1
I have this HDHomeRun unit and I'd like to know if it's possible for it to run on the backend of a pc with Windows 10.  Since WMC only runs on Windows 7 and Windows Vista, is there any other alternative to it on Windows 10?  Or, is it even possible to somehow install WMC on Windows 10?

I'm pretty sure you can use that tuner with other DVR software instead of WMC, like nextpvr, emby, etc.  There is a hacked version of wmc that runs on win10 but last I tried it (which I admit was a very long time ago) it was not working well, example: https://windowsreport.com/media-center-windows-10-1607/
Windows Media Center PVR addon (pvr.wmc) and server backend (ServerWMC)

Try nextPVR, that runs on Windows 10
Server: Ubuntu Server 22TB HDD running SAMBA
Kodi: 4 Raspberry Pi 3 running Libreelec -  on the main PC - running Linux Mint

I installed the HD Homerun software on my Windows 10 pc. I then downloaded the HD Homerun App from the Microsoft store, but when I clicked on it a black screen with the following message pops out:  Unable To Play Channel Unknown Channel Timeout

Obviously, before I even install it in Kodi as PVR client, I wanted to make sure it works.  Apparently, it doesn't.  It was able to scan for channels during the installation process and it actually pulled in my local OTA channel lineup guide.  It's connected to my modem/router via an ethernet cable, by the way.  Any advice would be surely appreciated.

Try running it through NextPVR, it is free and it can be used as the backend for Live TV
Server: Ubuntu Server 22TB HDD running SAMBA

If you have the device showing on Woot that is a legacy device and you probably needed to install the HDHR software installed.  You do need to make sure the firmware is current.  Your device should show up on http://my.hdhomerun.com and give you some basic details on the device.  If that works other Windows backend should work too.

You mentioned guide data but you didn't mention your country which makes a big difference for PVR.  In the US and Canada the free data can really suck.  You also never mentioned if you want how you planning on watching TV and if you want to use Kodi as your PVR front end or not. If you choose Emby you are limited to their UI client on Kodi but the guide data is included in the subscription.  If you want to use Kodi  NextPVR you probably want a Schedules Direct subscription.  MediaPortal is another option but it is harder to setup then NextPVR and you still need guide data.

Yes you can still use WMC in win 10.  look here:

or here  https://www.itechtics.com/windows-media-center/

With ServerWMC you can also record, schedule and playback in Kodi.
