Asking for a friend - seems they have made some "improvements" in the 4.3 version which he says makes it nearly unusable for his purposes, and he wants to find the AMD64 .deb build of 4.2 if there is any place to still get that.

I don't know of any source for a deb package any more. You can try to build your own by grabbing the git source and then checking out the release/4.2 branch. I don't know if it will still compile on an up to date distro though.

I'm an average user. I compile all kinds of things.

I see. Well, if the user was nicer it's quite likely that someone might offer to compile a deb package for them. Hard to do without knowing the system they wish to install to. TVHeadend is very simple to build as there is an Autobuild script to make the deb package. That said, 4.2 dates way back to the Ubuntu 18 era. I'm not sure it will compile on a up to date version. The API version for the hts kodi plugin is likely also too out of date to work with a recent Kodi version.
I'm not sure what function from 4.2 could possibly be missing from the current TVHeadend base. 4.2 had many issues that made it totally unusable for me.
