However it might run if you have graphics hardware and device drivers fully support OpenGL 1.4 or later, and you logged-in with administrative rights.
Why would you want to run a media center software on a server operating-system anyway?

It runs quite well on Server 2003 
I was already running it as a file/media/web server at home so I figured why not hook it up to the TV and run XBMC on it

I'm currently running Windows Media Center on Vista and sometimes find myself wanting to remote desktop into the PC while I or someone else is watching something on it.
An active Remote Desktop session would kill the video and lock the PC. Windows server supports multiple sessions so I would be able to remotely administer the PC while the kiddies are watching a video.

good question why not? you can run it on console and run some hyper-V for other tasks.
radeon catalyst works with hdmi on server 2008 standard x64 hyper-V enabled.
If it works with vista X64 it probably works on server 2008 X64.

Sorry to continue off topic, but isn't XP just Server 2003 in workstation mode? I know XP x64 is more so than 32bit XP...
Also, that is a good idea running XBMC on a server machine to allow for remote desktop while it's in use. I may try that, thanks for the idea!

A lot of people install server 2008 instead of vista due to the fact that its not bloated with unneeded services. It has all the features of vista including aero but by default has a lot of services and unneeded crap disabled. However, there are a lot of drawbacks as some client software like A/V, mozy, etc won't install on servers.
