XBMC for me is all about streaming... I rarely use the drives in my xbox nowadays other than for emulators or games...... so the lack of ethernet is a real blow....

I came across this one too the other day. I love the looks of it and the size is quite impressive. But yeah, no network is a showstopper. Get that problem out of the way and you have an awesome mc device.

No network connectivity is a major F*up. Everytime you want to add something new you have to unplug the drive, plug it into the computer, add the media on, unplug the drive from the computer, plug it back into the media player. How large of a market can there be for this type of device?

Not if you want to be able to stream content, which is pretty essential as far as being considered an ideal platform. But it is a nice little thing though.

Out of the box, the hardward and software that comes with it, only plays from the local USB port.
But, if the box could be booted off of a USB drive with XBMC Live installed on it, would XBMC Live not then just install and use it's normal Network access methods and then be able to stream with it ! ?

Forget the NIC, thats not the real problem here.
There is absolutely no way to run XBMC off of this thing... it isn't a computer.
You can't just plug xbmc live into anything with a USB port and have it work.

Damn, shoulda read the spec sheet properly.
£80 quid looked a nice cheap end-point. Guess the OS on XBMC Live doesn't support USB ethernet ports ?

I bet there's more of a market than you think. Of course we all add media constantly, but the majority of consumers do not. I was thinking of getting one for my parents or sister, then they could just bring their drive to my house when they vistit and get a nice media update from me, take it back home and just plug it in. A
An onboard NIC sure would have been nice tho...

Guys -- the lack of networking is not the major issue here.
The problem is, there is absolutely no way to run XBMC on this (without some major hacking/porting. You can't just stick Live on anything with usb ports and expect it to work.
Edit -- (There are two posts on this device for some reason, I didn't mean to raise the same issue twice, sorry)
