Specifically, I'm dealing with the movie "Ben-Hur" which is a very lengthy movie that is split across two sides of a DVD.
Any tips for making this into "one" DVD or making XBMC treat it as such?

Well..obviously you need to rip both sides of the disc....when they are both on your PC it's a simple matter of naming conventions...However, since i never use multi-part sources i can't really tell you what that is. Do a quick search or look in the wiki for details on multi-part sources. Surely, information abounds.

Do you want to just rip the main move - in which case you use the stack function, I beleive.
Or do you want the whole disk with extras and menus? If that's the case, I think you will need to treat it as if it was a 2 disk DVD - that would mean that you would lose the ability to play start to finish without interruptions.
