Can I simply overwrite the files in the dotXBMC folder on the USB stick with newer files?

Hey dude,
u can simply add the following sources into your sourcelist in apt.

Code:
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xbmc-addons/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/jaunty-ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

Then add the keys
Code:
sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 318C7509 9317790E
sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 318C7509 64234534

After that you only need these two comands

Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Now your system upgrades everytime you enter the last two commands automaticly the latest svn builds.

But I don't have Linux installed and am booting to XBMC using a flash drive. So why is not possible to just copy the files I download from Nightly Builds into the usb drive?

if you do that it will break. I have tryed that.

you will loose the auto login stuff on xbmclive.

it might be a permissions thing not sure.

Your XBMC Live Stick includes Linux Ubuntu.
To do this commands you need to get into the Console.
Simply try CTRL+ALT+F2 to enter a new tty Session.

Login with Username: xbmc
and password: xbmc

And try my steps above.

What about the upgrade. Did it worked for you?

I haven't tried yet. I think I'm just going to install the Linux version later because I want the support for the Xbox controllers. XBMC Live does not support the xbox controller and there is no guide on the net on how to make it work.
