xbmc - screen randomly goes black, clicking mouse button toggles to bordered xbmc
#1
I just set up XBMC today.

Im running on an Intel Motherboard with onboard HDMI out. My OS is Ubuntu 9.0.4/i686 and I have installed all the updates from the repositories.

The actual version is:
Architecture: i386
Source: xbmc
Version: 9.04.1-jaunty1
Depends: xbmc-common (= 9.04.1-jaunty1), xbmc-skin-pm3-hd (= 9.04.1-jaunty1), xbmc-web-pm3 (= 9.04.1-jaunty1)

The log file shows a build day of May 25th(it should be quoite new as i downloaded from the repository today). I have also configured lirc with a usbmce2 remote control.

Anyways the following happens, I'll be watching a video and the screen goes black, but I can still hear the sound. If I click either the left/right mouse button I will see the video again, except the video will no longer be full screen. I will see the top menu bar from ubuntu, and the xbmc border. Clicking the mouse button again will make me go back to full screen black.

This has happened with an avi now and DVD Image I'm playing off the hdd(IFO/VOB files)

This is driving me nuts...

If I look in the xmc.log Im not sure if I see an issue, or just the shutdown of the application as I get frustrated and shut the application down.

I noticed this in the logs:

21:01:48 T:3064756080 M:1736216576 NOTICE: Default DVD Player: dvdplayer
21:01:48 T:3064756080 M:1736216576 NOTICE: Default Video Player: dvdplayer
21:01:48 T:3064756080 M:1736216576 NOTICE: Default Audio Player: paplayer

Should I be changing by default audio player? Maybe that will help? If I use "movie player" from the desktop I can play these same files without a problem.

A quick solution would be to prevent X initiating the screensaver and blanking the screen. This can be done in preference in GNOME, and through xorg.conf.

Ideally XBMC would prevent from screen blanking from occuring, but it turns out what they've done isn't enough for it to work under all conditions.

thanks maxim.. i'll give that a try..

I'm guessing other apps such as Movie Player have something built in that stops the OS from initiating the screen saver as I can watch a 90 minute avi through them with no issue.
