I had a similar problem not long ago (a month or so) on my RASPBMC Pi.
My Pi is on 24/7 and had been so for at least 4-5 months.
It turned out that by restarting the Pi (from the XBMC menu) it started to update itself (automatically done by RASPBMC), which took a while.
But after it was done the system is MUCH snappier and the SVTplay functionality was back again.
It still works fine (just checked).
So if you have not restarted your Pi in a long time a restart with update might be a good idea....
