Nt_status_object_name_not_found

hi,

first off, thanks for a great product. it works like a charm. i impress all of my friends with my technical prowess simply by giving them a quick guided tour.

however, i do have the occasional error. i have searched this forum and found many instances of this error, virtually always related to rights on xp. i have my xbox hooked up via 100 mbit ethernet to my pc running xp pro sp2. i get this error at least once every xbmc session, but it seems to have no negative effect whatsoever. it is almost always followed by "access denied" but i have access to everything.

i can ftp to my xbox, play movies from it, do imdb lookups, play mp3s, access my digital picture directory, everything seems to work. nothing is stored locally on the xbox, all is on my pc. here are a few points :

- xp firewall service is not enabled.
- i have zone labs integrity desktop as my firewall, and i have set a range of ips as trusted which includes the xbox ip.
- i have a linksys router attached to my cable modem.
- file and print sharing are enabled on my pc.
- i can browse my directories on my pc from my xbox. prior to installing xbmc 1.1, i had 1.0 with a modified xboxmediacenter.xml file in order to go directly to my shares. it worked fine, with the occasional "access denied" error. i could always get to everything after clicking the green button on the xbox controller to say ok.
- the new xbmc 1.1 overlaid my old xboxmediacenter.xml so i no longer have the modified xml file, just the default one. i am going to modify it again, but the behaviour is the same. that leads me to believe that xml file is not the cause.... when i modify it, i do not put in username and password into the smb line. i merely point it to my ip and directory, and it can then access it.
- imdb search works from xbmc, as does the weather and it looks up mp3 albums (cool feature).
- every time i start an xbmc session, it almost always starts with the "object name not found" error. i click ok, it usually followed by "access denied" and then everything is fine.

is there some sort of logging i can enable to help me determine why that error is occurring? i am sure it is doing some sort of lookup, however it should have access to do whatever it wants. as i said, i can watch movies, play mp3s, no problems at all.

it has me stumped. my next attempt will be to remove everything from the xboxmediacenter.xml file in terms of connections, and only have the minimum. i store all my movies in a movies folder, and all my mp3s in a music folder. no need to have anything else.

great piece of software. any suggestions, guesses, comments, whatever.... welcome. i am sure it is a single lookup done once, but i can't figure out what it is.

i actually got "access denied" while in the weather screen. i havent been able to reproduce it again but i thought it was really odd.
#3
one thing i can add is that once i start something (such as an mp3), it will start playing and then a little while later, i will get the "nt status object" error message. i assume that it is trying to look up album art? i assume that because the album art on screen looks like a cd case. i can do a lookup and once i pick the correct album, it will correctly show that art.

it's not my firewall. i disabled it, and rebooted the xbox. as soon as i go into my videos, it makes the connection to my share and then gives me an "access denied" message, followed by the nt status object error. i click ok (using the xbox gamepad) and i have access to everything.

ideas ?

thanks,

whohoo! figured it out!

the error messages were caused by the skin i had chosen. i used the "symbol" skin, which when you select my videos, has the poster of the most recent movies added to the my videos directory. when i change to any of the 3 other skins, i do not get the error message. for now, i am using project mayhem and i haven't seen the error messages yet (only been an hour or so).

here is some interesting additional info. i have 5 shared directories on my pc. the one my videos is directed to is the share into which i drop avis. the symbol skin would display posters of the latest 3 avis if it could find them. however, what was odd was that i dropped 2 recent avis into a totally different directory, a shared temp dir which is not listed explicitly in my xboxmediacenter.xml file. i was very suprised to find their posters show up in the symbol last 3. i can only guess that it went out and checked all shared directories on my pc, rather than just the one configured in the video section. that would explain the "access denied" error messages, and also the "nt status object name not found" as it would likely find shares to which it did not have full rights but which it could see.

comments?

thanks,

over one week later, i have never seen either message again. previously, i would see the error message 5 or 6 times every session. therefore, changing to any skin other than symbol is a valid solution.

I have changed the skin and still get the same issue, well I can FTP into the Xbox but the xbox cannot see any of my share points. Please help!!

We could hire a mind reader, but might be easier if you provide a debug log Smile

@nilz38
That's not a debug log - please enable debugging mode and upload at pastebin.com

I'm a bit worried about your statement, where you mention the "new xbmc 1.1"... That's why we need the entire log to see version and errors.. I can't see any "Nt_status_object_name_not_found" in your log.

Btw, I don't know if you've seen Team XBMC's announcement that Xbox forums will get read-only at the end of the week, you might want to take this at http://xbmc4xbox.org...
