hi,
first off, thanks for a great product. it works like a charm. i impress all of my friends with my technical prowess simply by giving them a quick guided tour.
however, i do have the occasional error. i have searched this forum and found many instances of this error, virtually always related to rights on xp. i have my xbox hooked up via 100 mbit ethernet to my pc running xp pro sp2. i get this error at least once every xbmc session, but it seems to have no negative effect whatsoever. it is almost always followed by "access denied" but i have access to everything.
i can ftp to my xbox, play movies from it, do imdb lookups, play mp3s, access my digital picture directory, everything seems to work. nothing is stored locally on the xbox, all is on my pc. here are a few points :
- xp firewall service is not enabled.
- i have zone labs integrity desktop as my firewall, and i have set a range of ips as trusted which includes the xbox ip.
- i have a linksys router attached to my cable modem.
- file and print sharing are enabled on my pc.
- i can browse my directories on my pc from my xbox. prior to installing xbmc 1.1, i had 1.0 with a modified xboxmediacenter.xml file in order to go directly to my shares. it worked fine, with the occasional "access denied" error. i could always get to everything after clicking the green button on the xbox controller to say ok.
- the new xbmc 1.1 overlaid my old xboxmediacenter.xml so i no longer have the modified xml file, just the default one. i am going to modify it again, but the behaviour is the same. that leads me to believe that xml file is not the cause.... when i modify it, i do not put in username and password into the smb line. i merely point it to my ip and directory, and it can then access it.
- imdb search works from xbmc, as does the weather and it looks up mp3 albums (cool feature).
- every time i start an xbmc session, it almost always starts with the "object name not found" error. i click ok, it usually followed by "access denied" and then everything is fine.
is there some sort of logging i can enable to help me determine why that error is occurring? i am sure it is doing some sort of lookup, however it should have access to do whatever it wants. as i said, i can watch movies, play mp3s, no problems at all.
it has me stumped. my next attempt will be to remove everything from the xboxmediacenter.xml file in terms of connections, and only have the minimum. i store all my movies in a movies folder, and all my mp3s in a music folder. no need to have anything else.
great piece of software. any suggestions, guesses, comments, whatever.... welcome. i am sure it is a single lookup done once, but i can't figure out what it is.
