allmusic scraper and album reviews
#1
is there a reason why allmusic does not scrape reviews for all albums? I enabled "Download additional information during updates" in settings and set the default service to allmusic. In settings I have enable fanart, grab album thubms from allmusic, grab artist thumbs from last.fm, and grab artist thumbs from HTBackdrops.

Now when I update library it provides the album review to some albums but not others when I know in fact there is a review for that album. It finds other information for the album as far as moods, genre, styles, and so forth but just not the review.

I am running xbmc 9.11 r26018 on apple tv.

There may be some very minor difference in the returned allmusic webpage that's preventing the scraper from finding the review. Post some of them that get the review, and some that don't. That's the problem with scraping. You're also running a relatively old version. The scraper may have changed since then to account for this. Try running the last official osx nightly. I've been running it on my ATV since it was available. Keep a backup copy of your database just in case there was a version change between them. It'll make it easier to revert back to 9.11.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.

Alright guys, gonna dig up an old thread and try and help get this fixed.

Here is an album that got the review straight away from Allmusic scraper.

And here is one that didn't

Most of mine don't end up getting the reviews. If anything else will help please let me know.

Uhh, the problem is this:
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?P=amg...ted&OPT1=2

There are a couple of results and XBMC is selecting the first one which doesn't have the review. I don't see any obvious way to get around this.

I attempted to fix it. Could you please check if it is any better now?

Cheers olympia, that fixed anything that didn't get a review but one was available.

With further digging it is doing the same thing with album covers.
The result i wanted was the album by The Sleeping called The Big Deep.
But when i refresh its info in XBMC, it pops up a list that doesn't even have the one by The Sleeping in it.

Cheers for the hard work olympia.

Hmmm... I assumed you're on Dharma and you can update allmusic scraper from the scraper repo, can't you? It's working for me with allmusic scraper version 1.0.9.

Maybe I misread what you wanted to articulate Smile

So are the reviews are OK? (Read your sentences - it's not obvious which word to replace Smile )

Edit: OK, The sleeping issue will be hopefully fixed after an update.

Sorry olympia,

Yes the review issue is all fixed up. Sorry for any confusion.

But i did find another issue where it would not fetch album covers even though they were available. The example was the album " The Big Deep" by the band "The Sleeping"

Thanks again.

No worries, I figured out finally. Smile

But like I mentioned in my previous post (maybe I was the confusing this time), it should be fixed now. Still no joy for you?

Yeah the album cover issue is also fixed now with the latest allmusic album scraper update.

Awesome work.

Edit: Sorry olympia found some more.

How about when an album name is so common that the band you are looking for doesn't come up in the search.

ie Album "Home" by the band "August Burns Red"

*shrug* I see no solution for this Smile

OK,
So the scraper actually does an album title search, then uses the artist to pick one. It doesn't actually do an "advanced search" and input both the artist and album.

All good. It mainly happens for "best of" albums and anything with a really common title.

All the help was much appreciated.

Do you actually see an option to search by artist + album? It seems to me there is no way to search like that.
