ATI or NVIDIA

Question
Hi

I'm putting together a new PC to run XBMC Linux/Live - what's the best GPU to go for? ATI or NVIDIA?

I'm not going down the Atom/Zotac builds as I also want to dual boot with Windows and do gaming on it so I'll be getting a fairly powerful GPU - but I'm not sure which is best for XBMC.

Thanks for any info Smile

100% Nvidia. The Nvidia drivers are much better, although the Ati drivers have improved a lot over the last year.

No question, NVIDIA.

You will have 100x fewer headaches. Plus it's easier to get help with issues, since most people on this forum use NVIDIA (especially ION).

Thanks. A GT240 512MB is a safe bet then?

I can recommend this one:
http://www3.pny.com/GT-240-512MB-GDDR5-P...8C431.aspx

It works great in Win7 XBMC with DXVA2 (have it in my desktop, which is used mainly for serving content and testing newer svn XBMC releases).

Thanks. I will no doubt struggle to get hold of that particular model, I'm looking at this.

I got that one because it was the GDDR5 model + it was $99 with a $30 rebate so it came out to $69. I was also looking at another eVGA (I built an i3 + this GT 240 for my brother) but it was $20 more.
