Then don't require it. You could make an option to either have your plugin scan the library itself, or just to rely on sickbeard, since it would have scanned the library already.
Even if it WERE required--I really don't see why this is undesirable. I would be willing to bet that the vast majority who would use this script would be using sickbeard or a program like sickbeard as well.
Obviously, if they have cable, they have access to a viewing guide already... and if they don't have cable, then why do they care when a show airs unless they plan to acquire it somehow? It seems to me that your plugin and sickbeard target the exact same audience.
Most importantly, I think it might help overcome a large problem with the functionality of your plugin, which is the long time it takes to scan the library and scrape for the show information. Why not at least create the option to let sickbeard take care of all of that heavy lifting? This is especially true if I am right in that most of this plugins users will also be using sickbeard, which makes this arduous process simply redundant for most users.
But I digress, because I am thankful for your great plugin! Keep up the good work, however you see fit.
