So ive tried to add the shared folders to my xbmc on appletv2 but it comes up with the name of the workgroup then the computer, then it says invalid arguement - thats where the shared folders should appear..

I am runnings

Platform appletv2
Version of iOS from the box
Build version number and date compiled
Install Method ssh'd

You added your smb source the wrong way as it seems. A SMB source consists of a hostname (BRIAN in your case) - and a Sharename (this is missing here!) - this is normally the name of the shared folder on your windows xp box.

Mostly you need also a username and a password (which would be the account of your windows xp pc)
