Team Xbmc does not officially support opensuse and the instructions on the wiki are user content.
We provide our packages for ubuntu only.

That's sad. XMBC does also not provide a LSB Release or at least a statically linked binary for /opt.

That's what LSB is there for, a way to make software fit for every Linux Distribution out there.

Google does for example provide a statically linked binary of Google earth, that's why it runs everywhere, on every Linux Distribution.
If you do not like statically linking, linking to LSB as a standard is an alternative way to solve such things.

In my opinion XMBC should officially support LSB, instead of only one distribution like Ubuntu.

If you want to provide it, provide it. We all work voluntarily on xbmc - if you want to sponsor something, especially time - you are free to do so.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

If it is okay for you if i leave other open source projects you might very likely use, i could do some stuff for XBMC.
But than don't ask, if the other Open Soure Software you use too, doesn't make a progress.

So to make it short. It's not my job, i am not a team member of XBMC, you are. So you should do, what should be done and is expected.
I do this, for the other projects too.

We also provide source code *hint*
Its up to distributions to package it properly, or do you see lots of OSS projects provide _binaries_ for every dist out there, or lsb for that matter?

that's the meaning of "open source" any one can do it so don't put this on our shoulders. You want to use it on OpenSUSE not us.

Other large projects where the distribution version lacks features or isn't the best choice do at least provide statically linked binarys or officially support all major distributions.

Examples:

VLC does provide official packets for every major distribution.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/#download

Eclipse does provide a statically linked binary that runs on every Linux distribution:
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/

Libre Office does the same:
https://de.libreoffice.org/download/

Open Office does this too:

Firefox & Thunderbird also:

Instead of officially supporting ubuntu and only ubuntu, you could safe your time and provide only a statically linked version of XBMC or one that ships with its own dynamically linked libraries or use LSB.
This way, it wouldn't be more work, it would be only one package as before, but it would run on every linux distribution.

If Ubuntu needs a packet of XBMC, let Ubuntu do that work.

wsnipex asked for an answer, he got his answer and now you do not like it.

Other projects show, that they do a better job here. You should follow their example.
It's true, you are not other projects. You are only a Ubuntu centric project.
Debian supporters must feel annoyed, because their work gets used and they get nothing back from Ubuntu users like you, that use work based on Debian by using Ubuntu.
For political correctness officially supporting one package that runs everywhere is the only correct way.
Especially if you do not have the time to officially support all major Linux distributions. Think about it.

if you care so much, make the changes and send a PR. again it's open source software you know.
we have more than enough work to do already.

besides Debian has other issues as they won't allow ffmpeg which we use.

I suggest you start hacking away to get a statically linked xbmc, that runs on every linux dist(or at least lsb) with the same features. You have no idea what you are actually asking.
