Had not noticed that thread; thanks looun. Glad HiMedia is working on it, but whenever I read something like "waiting on chip manufacturer", hope dims some.

Thanks for the visual confirmations looun. My BenQ W1070 displays "24Hz" whether it's getting 24.000 or 23.976. HiMedia just needs to focus on squashing bugs now (3D ISO's playing at 720p, VC-1 23.976 playback improvement and 29.970 fix, and the other things we've asked their engineers).

Yes. Just e-mailed them again today, requesting they focus on fixing bugs I noted.

I just bought this but now Im wondering if I should return and get Shield TV. Its £70 more and have to wait for real 24p playback but it is faster hardware and can do 4k @ 60.
What do you guys think? Is it better to stick with Q5 as Shield has Android TV which has its issues?

If you need/want 3D, HD audio and 23.976 all in one box, Q5 is it. If you want something with better 4K and gaming, then Shield. But, for proper framerates and HD audio support, it'll take a while I think for nVidia to support. And, 3D, a longshot.

To be perfectly clear, this is only true if you want/need Android as well. I don't know why anyone would put up with this horrific box otherwise. Anyone who cares about high quality video and audio should not buy an Android box, no matter how close this thing gets.
