I just had a quick play with NextPVR and I can't believe how easy it to set up compared to For The Record!
Just need a working addon for the latest Windows Alpha.
For NextPVR to work does it have to be started as an app or can it be a service on start up?

You just need the recorder service to run, not the frontend gui

You just need the app to configure it. For XMBC to work with it just the service needs to be running and it should get setup to start automatically when you installed NPVR.
If Wiley doesn't post a new "official" version soon. I can post a link to the build I just made.

just a heads up guys, probably time to start posting these issues outside of this "NextPVR (NPVR) First Impressions" thread as it's going WAYY off topic and becoming somewhat of a a troubleshooting thread. Can start becoming very confusing. It'll be much easier to follow production if we start to utilize the NPVR thread a little more productivly

Since Nextpvr already does timeshifting I'm fairly certain sub will update the plugin to support it once it's in master.
