Does it have any issues taking a DTS-HD or TrueHD and dropping it down to stereo? I have been looking for a month or 2 about replacing my secondary HTPC's and this looks perfect. All of my movies are 1:1 blu-ray (few HD DVD) with only the HD audio track left.

I do that with mine,

To test, I just played on my cheap stereo TV

* 720 w/ FLAC lossless
* 720 w/ OGG
* 720 w/ DTS
* 720 w/ DTS-HD

All played ! (yes... w/ SOUND ! )

Do you have any videos with TrueHD. I know alot of media players that have a hard to decoding that.

Surprisingly, no, I don't. I just scanned over 2000 files, and did not find one with a flag displaying "Dolby TrueHD"

So, I can't verify via testing.

Likely, this is because most of my files are 2-8 GB, and when I looked at http://torrentz.eu/ for a "trueHD" file, they were massive.

You will need to have Davilla answer this for you.

Thanks for searching, I'd appreciate it if davilla could verify this, Also Ive searched but couldnt find out if the pivos using xbmc can display pgs subtitles and forced subtitles in mkv. I know there not listed on the pivos product page.

Were all the files you tested 720i? Wink

I do not have a receiver that can handle THD sound. When I encode my video, actually when I rip the track, I sample it down to AC3 with eac3to as otherwise it won't play sound via XBMC. I'm not sure that XBMC itself downsamples this so I wouldn't expect the Pivos version to either. The solution for THD is simple IMO, downsample them before muxing into a MKV file. Now, if all you ever do is download files you might have more trouble with this but I find the original media is the best path to quality on my screen as most of the files online are crap IMO. <shrug>

Edit: Ah I see you have 1:1 copies which would possibly explain the THD as you aren't processing the movies at all. Not sure what to tell you there as 1:1 is simply too much when you store a thousand or two movies lol. I process all of mine and lose at least a third of their size and drop the audio down on THD, DTS I leave alone however and XBMC has no issues downsampling if needed - one of my stereos handles this the other doesn't.
Openelec Gotham, MCE remote(s), Intel i3 NUC, DVDs fed from unRAID cataloged by DVD Profiler. HD-DVD encoded with Handbrake to x.264. Yamaha receiver(s)

Sadly, it was a small HTPC, built before standards...

Subtitles? In my Linux install, the Xios XBMC does subtitles just like any XBMC.

When I play a foreign film I can download subtitles (via the XBMC plugin) and it works fine.

More than this, I cannot say, as usually I try to avoid subtitles.

Pivos plays them exactly like how XBMC mainline under dvdplayer plays them. That said, since I rarely use subtitles, not a clue. I'll I know is I look, subs play, I move on Smile
