I have purchased a NUC with a Celeron N3050 in it and installed Ubuntu 14.04 with Kodi and MythTV. At first all seemed to be running well, but then I noticed a few things.
The first was that when watching live TV, it would every now and then freeze, and then catch back up (sometimes freezing for up to 20 or 30 seconds). So I opened up the system resource monitor and found that every time this happened, at least 1 (if not both) of the cores on the CPU would be maxed out at 100%. Everything else seemed fine. The CPU usage even when not doing much seems to be pretty high as well (up to 80% sometimes).
I tried playing an MKV (think its a H.264) file, and it was not smooth at all as it played. MythTV was recording something at the time, so I am guessing that trying to decode a video while recording was too much for it. I checked again and the CPU was maxed out.
I guess I would love a solution to my issue, however, I'm guessing the only solution is to replace the NUC with an i3/5/7 one (and my money is down the drain on this one)?
