I'm making a list of my "must keep" add-ons. I think i'm going to start from scratch and see if that solves it.

Kodi caches views. It might have just cached the previous Rytec list with nothing in it. Try restarting Kodi.
I've done that, too. I even cleared cache (in Android settings) and rebooted my TV box. No change. Short of the nuclear option, I'm out of ideas. Sad

What exact version of Kodi and Android are you using?
Post the first few lines of your kodi.log.

Older versions of Kodi might fail on https urls.
Zap uses https.

The Rytec problem could be something to do with a wrong or corrupt busybox exe.

Zap should work without busybox.

I'm using Leia 18.2 on Android 7.1.2 API level 25 (kernal: Linux 3.14.29). It can't be that. It worked fine for months on 18.1 (and 17.6) on the same box I'm using now. I didn't have any problems until 2 nights ago when it stopped updating, but I could still get in to Rytec and Zap and select/remove channels even then. I only lost those when I hit "reset" In Meld a few hours ago. No add-on changes. No new Android .apks.

It could be a "fix" too far in leia 18.2 android. I haven't tried it myself yet.

Try deleting the complete addon_data folder
addon_data\plugin.program.xmltv.meld
restart android
restart kodi
only add
zap \ usa 1 \ timezone - eastern \ <add zap> and \ abc
Update
check the xmltv.xml file in
addon_data\plugin.program.xmltv.meld

The problems started when I was using 18.1. I only updated to 18.2 this morning to see if that would fix it! I'll try deleting folder (again) but when I right-click it's not even giving me the option to "add Zap" or "add usa 1." If I want to rrevert back to 18.1 how would I do that? Uninstall 18.2 and download from Kodi.TV? Google play would just reinstall 18.2.

Be careful on Android. I've tried to downgrade before and lost everything.
Copy any settings you don't want to lose somewhere safe first.
On the plus side it is sometimes nice to have a Spring Clean and only add what you really use.

Deleting the folder (again) didn't work. Neither did deleting a bunch of old add-ons repos, and folders that I shouldn't have had in the first place. Wink  I'm going to start fresh with a clean legal fully Kodi compliant installation. Hopefully, it's not a problem with my cheap Chinese box!

Update: I deleted all the Kodi data and started over and got the same error again! So I deleted all the data, deleted Kodi and reinstalled 18.1 from Kodi.tv. I added only your repo, XMLTV-Meld and TV Guide Fullscreen and, so far it's working!

I don't know what went wrong before I updated to 18.2, but it's working again on 18.1. You may want to do some testing on 18.2.
Thanks for alll your help, Primaeval. I love your work!

Just found out my update hasn't run since 4/20. This morning the guide is blank. running on 18.2 RC1 from 4/14.

Perhaps there is a problem with 18.2. @TopekaRoy had a similar problem a few posts above.

Try renaming or moving the addon_data folder and do a simple test of each provider you use, one by one.
addon_data\plugin.program.xmltv.meld

If that works try putting the addon_data folder back and just rename the settings.xml file.
Set your Settings back to how they were and see if it works.
There might have been another change to the way settings are handled by kodi.

renaming folder failed. I removed xmltv add in and reinstalled. I put my backup of the addon folder back and it still fails.

P.S. I just went back to a 3/19 nightly build and it now works. So yes, somewhere a build killed it.

Have you tried going forward too?
You were on a build from the end of March.

OK So I got some time and this is what I did:

I deleted the xmltv.xml file so that it can be recreated if it worked. You suggested going forward. So I tried that first.
I tried 4/10 build - Failed
So I decided to go backwards again.
3/25 build - Failed
3/23 build - Failed
3/22 build - Failed
3/21 build - Failed
Tried 3/20 build - Worked.

So you can see where it stopped working for me at least. I use Zap to get my channels.

Try 0.0.59.
It looks like there is a bug in kodi with xbmcvfs.File().read().
I've made a bug report.
