2018 - Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K

Someone made a script on github to automate to compiling of the Hi10p fix, but I've been getting stuck on that as well:

i compile my own cube versions, it would be useful to know "what errors" you are having as there are a few steps to go through and a few things that are being done

I'm no expert when it comes to these things. But I tried running the script after installing some dependencies in Ubuntu running in WSL.
I've attached some logs and the terminal window output. It seem to go to 100% towards the end but stops short of making the APK, missing a bunch of libraries which seem to be already installed.

i wasnt aware windows/WSL was involved, not sure how that affects things

noted a couple of times errors referencing statx - "-- statx flags found but no linkable function : C library too old ?"

suggest retrying with r25c ndk - https://developer.android.com/ndk/downloads

and when configuring use the ndk api flag to compile api level 28 - "--with-ndk-api=28"

I just bought a Firestick 4K Max and noticed that Hi10p is software decoded and skips a ton of frames.

https://krakenfiles.com/view/aZQqOGJ3vA/file.html

This is still 19.1 since I haven't been keeping up.

Note that only 1920x1080 works. All other resolutions (e.g. 720) fail with green garbage.

Thank you so much, this is absolutely amazing.
I didn't encounter any issues with 720p playback either.
Really? That's unexpected. I don't have the Max though, so maybe that's the difference.

Just for you, some new versions. I just did a quick test, hopefully they work.

I'll give this a try sometime this week, and also see if I can figure out how to compile it so I can do it myself.

EDIT: Works perfectly!

Awwww lucky you! I tried the 300MB build and  2nd link above and unfortunately I haven't got much success as some files are showing incorrect colors and such. Turning off hw acceleration will make the color display correctly again but at the expense of the much needed smooth frame motion. Guess the cpu of our Firestick 4K is not up to par after all haha.

20.2: https://krakenfiles.com/view/rRqBvx41SS/file.html
Thanks for the rebuild. I tried both builds on my Fire TV stick 4K Max 2023:

19.5 works great and decodes all H.264 High 10 profile videos, no matter 1920x1080 or 1280x720.

20.2 failed to install. Many apk parsing apps cannot even parse it. I tried it again on my Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 (Android 13) and it doesn't install either. However it installs and works on my Fire HD 10 (Android 9). The MD5 of apk file is D0C5F3836ACA73C83E3B25E0FEDFD24E. While the official 20.2 arm7 apk works on all devices without any problem.

I currently stick on 19.5, but AV1 hardware decoding is only supported since Kodi 20. Could you please remake another 20.2 version to see if it works? Thank you.

I've tried searching the forums but have not found a definitive answer to whether there remains any problems with Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K (not MAX) auto frame-rate switching.

I'd install whichever Kodi build required. The specific use case is someone without internet, a LAN or a NAS. I'd use a USB HDD plugged into a powered hub, an OTG USB/microUSB cable and 1Gbs Ethernet/USB dongle and would pre-scrape all metadata before giving it to them.

Audio will come from the TV's TOSLINK output to a soundbar - I don't care about DTS/surround/etc. as the person is hard-of-hearing and just wants to hear dialog (hence the Zvox AV157 soundbar.)

DV HDR profile 8.1 and profile 5 is also desired.

My biggest concern is auto frame-rate switching. Is this a concern now a days?

This is probably why:
https://developer.android.com/about/vers...changes-11

"APK Signature Scheme v2 now required
Apps that target Android 11 (API level 30) that are currently only signed using APK Signature Scheme v1 must now also be signed using APK Signature Scheme v2 or higher. Users can't install or update apps that are only signed with APK Signature Scheme v1 on devices that run Android 11."

I only did the v1 signing since that worked fine with my FireTV stick.

Hi,
I have turned my Audio settings to PCM on the stick and to 7.1 in Kodi (passthrough is not available). Multichannel sound seems to work, but now the stick outputs everything as 5.1 PCM according to the soundbar, including stereo sources. Restarting the stick from the settings menu did not help. Is this normal?

since the 2018 stick only supports 8ch with EAC3 and OPUS and you're (probably) not playing EAC3 or OPUS then i'm going to say this is normal operation

see specs for your device here https://developer.amazon.com/docs/fire-t...ftvstick4k

Well the point is that it should output stereo as 2.0 PCM and not as 5.1 PCM. Seems to be a bug in the Fire TV firmware.

Yes, sadly that's normal for FireTV. Also 7.1 doesn't work (side/rear channels are reversed) so 5.1 is the best Kodi setting (but makes no difference if your system is 5.1).
