Solved Cannot install in Helix
#1
Hi!

I've recenlty upgraded to Helix, and cannot see the skin in the "Skins" listing in repository. I'm not quite up to date with recent developments, am I missing something? Using Helix stable release.

Thanks!

Not all skins are updated for Helix, so either

* you wait for Jeroen to update reFocus
* you use Mimic, a skin from bryanbrazil (http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=210552) that uses parts of reFocus
* you use a modded version of reFocus from bryanbrazil (http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=209593)

I've noticed Jeroen pushing some stuff to git the past few days but no official word from him on how this is going. There were a number of skin related changes between Gotham and Helix so might take some time. I'm holding off updating my systems until there is at least a reFocus beta - I've gotten way too used to that skin to change now!

If you're curious check out the change list between Gotham and Helix - http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=194515

Most Helix compatibility changes / fixes are easy and straight forward and don't take much time. The PVR section is the biggest part. Not too bad, but I am a little rusty, so it will take some time.

Today I've just installed the latest git revision, works like a charm. Not using PVR obviously.

Thanks for all your great work Jeroen.

I installed the pre-release 2 version, but I noticed the "audio and subtitle settings" menu (accessible from context menu while playing video) comes up with a blank screen. Has anybody else seen this as well? This problem was introduced at the installation of Helix, and other skins do show the menu without issues. Thanks!

What's not working?

This is a Helix incompatibility issue. There's a quick fix for this and other Helix compatibility issues on Git if you're feeling adventurous.

I am having problems installing on Kodi.

I tried a manual install of development version using zip file as per instructions on Git (https://github.com/jeroenpardon/skin.ref...nt-version) - as far as I can tell all required addons have also been installed - excluding the ones with broken Git links (Skin Shortcuts, Watchlist).

I get asked to switch to skin > Yes

Then get error:

Unable to load skin
Skin is missing some files

Log file: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=391727

How to fix?

Didn't realize the new approach uses per-item widgets. So disregard. Love the new functionality! For some reason subtitle settings are not working quite yet (while in the overlay for an underway video). So I'll stay tuned.

Thanks for the log, it seems the skin will not load because it's missing files related to the PVR. There have been a lot of changes to the PVR affecting skins in Helix. Several new xml files have been added, and reFocus does not provide these as of yet.

Unpacking the skin's zip file and placing the skin.refocus folder into your profile's add-ons folder manually may allow you to load up reFocus. But if you rely on the PVR you are better of using Confluence at the moment until reFocus is fully Helix compatible.

Ah yes, unpacking and placing in add-ons folders works! Just have to remember to first uninstall previous instance of skin! I don't use PVR so this is great untill you do a full port to Kodi/Helix, thanks Smile

anyone have a lead or two on why I might not be able to get any menu text in Kodi for mac?

from what I can see there's nothing alarming in the logs, seems to load fine, but then nothing but the menu background and the wallpaper, nothing works...

You probably don't have (the required version of) skin shortcuts installed.
