I have java installed though not certain if needed.

i have a folder (not ISO) and it's scanned into the library correctly.

when i try playback i'm prompted to select the menu style so I choose Blu Ry. after a short pause it just starts playing back a title with no menu displayed at all.

does this only work with ISOs?

Try this.

SETTINGS/ PLAYER SETTINGS / DISC / BLU-RAY PLAYBACK MODE /SHOW BLU-RAY MENU

did. still doesnt work. will try another bluray and see if it works.

this was the Pixar Short Films collection Volume 2 that failed. backup using MakeMKV to a folder.

Try to convert BD folder into an ISO.
