I'll give 2 indicators startup memory - and when I abuse xbmc
Home: free memory: 29000 - 12000
Movies library: free memory: 18000 - 8000
Free memory must be more than 11000 otherwise files won't play.
Here comes the trick if you did abuse xbmc (for example:fast zapping) and memory is to low to start file.
Go back to menu with menu button and push "ok" your back where you were and memory free gone up.
Edit:
Third indicator : normal use
Home : 23000
Movie library : 14000-15000

Did you tried installing on a diff folder and start from scratch?
EDIT: i was using a less intensive ram skin (vision2).

Did install in different folder (do this always) and start from scratch because like I said used clean (default) userdata. (Talking about mediastream won't run properly).

Saying "don't use mediastream" is BS because it worked great from 1/25 and before but now it doesn't and somehow thats the skins fault? SOMETHING changed in the underlying code of XBMC that broke things on the XBOX. Instead of blaming others why not look into what changed?
Is the change really necessary on XBOX builds? Or was it something for the Linux/Windows/mac OS?
Was the change intentional or was it a mistake that only seems to affect XBOX users?
These are productive lines of questions... Blaming the skin is not productive in this instance because it worked FINE before.
I would like to thank those of you who took the time and effort to post logs on this issue. I did not because the XBOX is in use in my home almost constantly so as soon as the issues pooped up again (2nd build with these issues) I reverted back as quickly as possible and have not had time to fiddle with it. Hopefully those logs help those of you devs and code jockeys who are willing to look into this issue for us.

Please provide some more memory statistics when using the older XBMC and the last one. I'm wondering what the differences are....

rev 18272 - MS Lite - 5-7 MB free RAM in media preview (fanart off)
rev 16762 - MS Lite - 15-18MB free RAM in media preview (fanart off)
Home Screen - 18 MB (rev 18272) vs 25 MB (rev 16762) of free RAM
Had to build libraries from scratch cause older libs won't work in newer builds and vice versa.

Thanks. Yes, the difference is quite obvious. I think it has to do with the recent changes in our GUILib. Please create a Trac bugreport about the issue (with ALL available info from this thread)....
