Trying to get Kodi to run on a GeForce4 MX 440 card
#1
This is an experiment - so just curious if I can get this to work.

I installed an old MX440 card in my Pentium4 computer (32 bit). The graphics card is working using the Nouveau driver.

Movies won't play due to shaders and other graphic elements not working. I wonder if there is a way to tweak settings somewhere to have Kodi take advantage of the MX440 (if possible). It should work as far as I can tell.

Thanks for any help.

Could you suggest a newer AGP video card that would would work?
I am using a P4M266A motherboard (ancient - but it works!). I put the MX440 in the AGP slot and I have pretty good simple graphics.
The windows are handled just fine - but rendering is not supported in Kodi and Ubuntu for it.

My goal was to set this as a HTPC for old DVD's I am ripping. Just attempting to do this I am learning much more about Linux and Kodi (because everything is breaking and fixing it is a learning moment!).

Just buy a Raspberry Pi or similar small device if you don't want to buy a new computer.

You could buy 5 raspberry pi's just in the cost of electricity you are saving from running a netburst pentium 4 computer. They would literally pay for themselves.

Buying a new graphics card for an old PC is not going to be cheap.

If you don't want to get a Raspberry Pi then you could get a cheap Android based device like:

Amazon FireTV Stick (uses similar chip as Raspberry Pi but runs a version of Android) http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=207444

or a little more pricy but more capable get a little better Android based box like:

Xiaomi Mi Box (4K HDR 'Mi Box' Android TV) http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=275083
