Enable debug mode when you run it again and provide the log if it happens again. Which skin are you using? Titan Binge?
Will do. I'm running Aeon MQ8 Modded for Matrix skin.

As complicated as my infra string is, I wouldn't be surprised if it's something else ...

Just a thought, if you are running Artist Slideshow check your storage settings in there.

I am running artist Slideshow, I'll have a look, good suggestion!

*just checked and it looks like all the settings in the artist slideshow are vanilla. I haven't configured this at all (new build). Looks like it's storing Artist images in the Addon_Data folder (probably because i'm running portable). It's been a day or so and i've just done a search for keywords like "logo" "clearart" "extrafanart" and nothing seems to be populating in the serach results. I think it's plausible that i may have been looking at old data that hadn't been cleaned up yet. I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes, thanks everyone for the help

Any chance you can share your advancedsettings file? You had shared that with me back in the Amber thread probably two years ago and I modeled mine off it, but it would be great to see what your new file looks like with the removal of stuff no longer needed in Matrix.

If there are key settings to make sure you check  or at least review when setting up a Matrix build to roll an 18.9 into (especially prior to install AD), that would be great to see as well. I'm about to look at finally migrating over, so any tips would be great, especially with some of these changes to movie folders and movie set folders. Currently all of my movies are in a single source folder, with no sub folders. So all .nfo and images are right next to the movie, along with all of the other files for the other movies.

If you add a movie to a set in Kodi (or Kodi automatically recognizes it as part of a set), I'm guessing it doesn't physically try to move the movie and images to the movie set folder, correct? But will it create a Movie Set folder for a set that did not previously exist? Say I only have the first 3 Ninjas movie. Then I add the second to my library, thus creating a need for a Set. Will Kodi create a Set Folder, or is that on me to manually create? Kodi likely would recognize that as a set on its own, so perhaps using the example of creating a Stand-up Comedy folder is better. Say I have 1 Dave Chappelle standup and then I add a 2nd and I want to group them into a "Dave Chappelle Standup" set, how does Matrix handle that and is there  a difference between a "known" set that is automatically recognized and one that is newly created?

Tv Shows are T:\\Tv Shows>Show Name> Season #, but I don't imagine anything needs to be changed there.

Thanks for any help and insight you can provide!

Sure... https://paste.kodi.tv/ixozawagug
But nothing has changed from v18. I still have all the artwork tags in there. Why? Because I do so much testing and frequently rebuilding my library, I leave the artwork tags in there because Kodi is smart enough to convert the old tags into the new artwork settings for v19. Saves me from having to readjust settings each time I delete and start fresh.

That must be messy....

Correct. Kodi does not move files.

No. The Movie set folder is used for those who have local artwork.
If you want to store local artwork for movie sets, then you need to create the movie set folders yourself or using Artwork Dump will do this automatically for you.
You first need to set the location of the Movie Set Information Folder in settings.

Yes, there is a difference. A set you create does not exist at the scraper site so no artwork can be scraped for movie sets, so no folder will be created by Artwork Dump. So you will need to create it manually and add your own artwork in there.

Please reread my previous posts. You've completely missed my point and issue.

Lets see if I can explain this in simpler form.

First download: Episode 1 HDTV-720P downloads. Therefore, the HDTV-720P-thumb downloads.
Upgrade: Episode 1 HDTV-1080P downloads. Therefore, the HDTV-1080p-thumb downloads.
Upgrade: Episode 1 WEB-DL720P downloads. Therefore, the WEB-DL720P-thumb downloads.
Upgrade: Episode 1 WEB-DL1080P downloads. Therefore, the WE-DL1080P-thumb downloads.

The above are all the same episodes, just the quality has been upgraded.

Are you starting to see a pattern here? Notice how all those thumb images have been created? Well, they don't get deleted or replaced. Therefore, I end up with unnecessary images in my folder. Kodi or AD should be able to replace and or delete those files when and episode is upgraded. If no programs are allowing a user to do this, then what is the reason for Kodi downloading images via any of the scrapers. So my issue is not the TYPE of artwork being downloaded. It is the method in which artwork is removed, deleted and updated as per the quality of the file.

Shedrock

Sorry to drag this up again, but I felt it might be of help if I put in here what I've witnessed (with regards Sonarr and it's Kodi metadata support) and the thought-process I use to get around it, not just for Shedrock, but anyone else who might read this down the line...

If Sonarr upgrades a show episode on your behalf, my understanding is that if you have 'Kodi Metadata' enabled within Sonarr, it should add/replace/delete artwork and/or rename existing artwork/thumbs to be consistent with the files to which it's matched. The 'quality' of the actual images themselves are of no concern, as they're thumbnails, and not a 'full-size' screenshot of the captured frame in that episode. So the updating/upgrading of those images should be taken care of by Sonarr at the time those episodes are updated/upgraded by way of a simple rename of the existing image files, before you ever get into/start Kodi to update your library.

However, Sonarr's metadata NFO generator isn't/wasn't fully compatible with the current Kodi (expected) structure last time I checked. Specifically actor artwork image links were not added to the NFO files, so you wouldn't get any actor artwork in Kodi, because the NFO lacked the required details.

Also, if you disable the Kodi metadata integration in Sonarr, and instead rely on the Kodi scraper or Kodi itself to generate episode thumbs, they will take the same name as the file being referenced, but Sonarr will ignore them, even if metadata is subsequenly re-enabled. As it did not create these files in the first place, so has no record of them and plays it safe (supposition on my part here). If you subsequently re-enable metadata integration, and then upgrade episodes, as those new episodes are new additions, Sonarr will generate new thumbnail images in-line with the episode filename, so then your likely to end up with multiple images for the same episode (old and new).

So essentially, while it is possible to have Metadata enabled in Sonarr for Kodi, now that the new Python-based scrapers (and Kodi itself) can download/generate episode thumbs and other artwork (although this depends on availability), and since the NFO structure created by Sonarr was/is suspect, I'd disable the metadata integration and let Kodi sort out the metadata (images, NFOs, etc.) to avoid the potential that duplicates will exist in the first place, and if you subsequently 'upgrade' a show in bulk use a tool like Bulk Rename Utility to replace any references to the "720p-WEBDL" or whatever Kodi/Sonarr decides to tack on the end of the file name with the desired replacement for the artwork it has already provided (If such a need should arise).

As I understand it, Kodi does not expect (nor allow for) episode file names to change once added to the library. Once a show has been added, and scraped, and artwork added, that's it. It will update any changes found in terms of naming of the media files during library updates, but it does not modify any pre-existing files in any way, shape or form, and this has always been the case in so far as I understand it. So if you want to add upgraded quality episodes to Kodi, for a show that was previously added and processed, there will always be a potential for artwork clutter as Kodi is reticent (for good reason) to modify or delete anything, even if that was created by itself and/or downloaded via scraper, so a workaround is is required (on your/our part). Artwork Dump will replace/upgrade artwork for which it was responsible for downloading (again, in so far as I understand it), but probably not for artwork added by 3rd party means.

So my final thoughts on this are that you have two choices:

[1]. Disable ALL artwork downloading features within Kodi, including uninstalling 'Artwork Dump' and disabling artwork downloading in those scrapers that have it, and any other UI settings that are related, and let your 3rd-party app(s) manage all aspects of artwork provision and/or NFO creation...

[2]. Do the exact opposite, and rely on Kodi to do this for you as was intended when these features were added back in v18. Remember, 3rd-party apps and 'Kodi Metadata integration' in Sonarr was originally provided due to the lack of functionality provided in the Kodi core. i.e: without installing any addons within Kodi at all. Now that functionality has been added, relying on 3rd-party apps for scraping information as well as artwork is now becoming obsolete. And at the end of the day, however efficient or flawed you may think the process is (within Kodi itself), it still relies on the SAME external sites as used by your 3rd-party apps to get the metadata you require, so it's only as good as the 'available' metadata anyway.

Sorry for the essay.

How does Matrix allow you to choose a different art without going to Manage>AB: Select artwork, now that AB is gone. I've managed to add AD's contextual menu item under Manage to download the art for something, but it looks like that just triggers to download whatever was originally scraped. I can't find any setting or option to allow me to view various options for say a movie poster or fanart. Is there another add-on I need to get to gain this functionality like the old Artwork Downloader before AB?

Perhaps a quick post going over some of the changes and settings of AD or Matrix that affect artwork could be useful. Thanks.

You have always been able to select and change artwork using Kodi. Call up the Information Page for the title, then select Choose Art. This is not new, and has been around since v12 (IIRC)
This method requires a correctly scraped library to work. If you use nfo files from a media manager, then this won't work as the media managers strip out artwork links from the nfo file.
But, not really a problem, because if you are using a media manager, then you would continue to use the media manager to change your artwork.

@Karellen
Thanks, this is what I was looking for. The Amber Skin has Choose Art hidden in the Extra button on the Information page which is why I wasn't finding it. That used to be on the main menu to be selected instead of going all the way into Information. I'll have to check around some more or reach out to Bart about the menu options. Thanks again for the info as always!

Hello guys,

i manage my artwork with tinymediamanager. Sources are based of "Local information only".

Now I updated to Kodi v19 and have a problem with the artwork. In v18 I used Artwork Beef to grab all artwork from my local files for Kodi.

Actual my old movies (scraped with v18) work with extrafanarts although they are located in the extra extrafanart folder. Other artwork (clearlogo etc.) work aswell.
When I add new movies to Kodi, which are already edited by TinyMediaManager, I did not see any artwork. Then I used Artwork Dump (download artwork for new videos): This creates two new jpg. in the movie folder (see picture). These two artworks were shown in Kodi, but other stuff like clearlogo didnt show up...

The problem occures only for movies. TV-Shows were scraped and shown perfect.

Does anybody has an idea?

Kind regards

If you are using TMM, then you don't need Artwork Dump. You should disable it. The reason the artwork dump is using that naming format is because you haven't adjusted the settings for it not to use that format.

Is the problem that your artwork does not show in Kodi?
If yes, then I note you are using the short name for artwork. Read section 3 here... https://kodi.wiki/view/Movie_artwork

Also, the extrafanart and extrathumbs folders are not used anymore. Check that same wiki page to see how they are saved. You should also delete the thumb.jpg image as it is problematic with some skins as some expect portrait and others expect landscape images.

Hey Karellen,

Thanks a lot.
The short name was the problem.

I am fine now. Thanks and have a nice evening!

Hi there. I tried using artwork dump for the first time today, but when I run it, seconds after the progress indicator telling me 0% appears it says I have an error and to check the logs.

I would be greatful of somebody would care to take a look because I was job the wiser after checking it.

There is nothing to see. The log is less than a second long. Also, upload to Kodi Paste Site

There we go. I had problems getting it to work and my logfiles often exceeds the allowed size on the kodi paste site, that's why I used Drive. But here it is. It's more than a second. Don't know what happened there.
