What gives you the impression I use a pi?

I am running my htpc on an i3 3.2ghz and a ati 7770 gpu. That thread doesn't really help at all.

The EPG just runs really slow as does channel changing Sad

sent u wrong link...

What's the correct one?

Yes.
Hi Lunatixz, I mentioned that I was having trouble with my setup connected via SMB. I have a main machine which has all the media local and a PC downstairs which connects via SMB.The downstairs PC channels scan correctly but after 5 mins or so it XBMC randomly freezes. What is even stranger is that I notice the strain on my main machine upstairs as it starts lagging. I let PTVL run overnight downstairs hoping that it would clear up after hours of running. When I woke up the main PC serving the PC downstairs was totally unresponsive. Mouse pointer and all.

The PC downstairs is not superfast, but it should be more than capable of running PTVL. The one upstairs is about twice as fast. I have never had any problems performance wise outside PTVL.

The good news is that the PC upstairs has cached the artwork and now plays properly. BCT''s, interleaves and all Big Grin

I have a log HERE, hopefully you see something. Thankyou for everything you do and for taking PTV and transforming it far beyond the next level.

Rastan - can you copy the pstvl folders from the primary pc to the secondary? I have read of users doing that on an RPI and the Amazon FireTV and having a better experience. Beats the heck out of having to build the channels twice.

I dont think that would work for me because of the path names

The PC upstairs has the files local
J:\Movies Archive 1/Rio.2011.BRRip.720p/Rio.2011.BRRip.720p

But downstairs connected via SMB would use
smb://PCNAME-PC/Movies Archive 1/Rio.2011.BRRip.720p/Rio.2011.BRRip.720p

If I just copied the folder over as suggested. The PC downstairs would not be able to find any of the media. The XBMC databases are in independent from each other. I hope that made sense...LOL

download notepad++ as suggested in the first post, do a find + replace for the path.

Yup, I use it to replace the paths for the settings2 file that I get from the main machine. I then do a force reset in PTVL to build the channels downstairs. Thats what I have always done from using the original PTV till now. I'm not too sure that there is any problem with that as the channels build and play fine. Its just the freezing issue. Its almost like the PC downstairs connected via SMB is requesting data until the PC upstairs gets overwhelmed. But I am no programmer so I am very likely talking out of my rear end..lol

But the way I set up the PTVL files has always been the same and has always worked, so not too sure that is the problem. Streaming movies via SMB outside PTV in normal XBMC works flawlessly no matter what resolution. No dropped frames or freezing. I just hope there is something in the logs I posted shedding light.

this is what i see for pstvl: http://www.xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=240045

as a test try removing the following chans from the settings2.xml to test.

6, 60, 94, 102, 108 and 131

and check the permissions for the following path : smb://STRONGAZ-PC/Movies Archive 2/Planet Terror 2007 BRRIP 720p/Planet Terror 2007 BRRIP 720p.m2ts
ok, I have just recopied a fresh load of copies of the playlists from the main machine, maybe the old ones were corrupt. I am just going to double check the playlists open on the SMB machine.

The permissions for the folder are read only, like the rest. I have just changed it to full control to see if that helps.

I will remove the channels you mentioned and test that now too

Thanks for your time, and if it doesnt work like Arnie "I'll be back!"

EDIT

Wow!! ...Just wow!!!

Bry... U the gat damn man! I just tried your suggestions and indeed it looks as though those channels you mentioned were the culprits. They must have got messed up when I added additional rules after editing it in notepad.
It hasn't finished building the channels, but hasn't froze or crashed for a good 30 minutes. I will leave it running all night to be sure.

You my friend are a star! Big Grin

EDIT 2

I may have jumped the gun a little. It crashed a few minutes after posting. I must have jinxed myself. At least I am on the right path now.

I tried installing it on Gotham 13.1 and I get that error, but had no problem installing it on my Gotham 13 machine.

I even tried unzip the file and placing the folder where it needed to be but that didn't work
I also installed all of the dependencies in post #1 as well and that did not work.

It's covered in the very first post under the heading "Dependencies".

@baken1925, since no one else replied: the "ustvnow" plugin is mandatory, not optional (like the first post implies)

maybe in old versions, but not the current one!

My sincere apologies, didn't see it mentioned in changelog. Trying the new version now. I am excited about unstacking the short YouTube videos!
Luna, i may be on to something that i think you should know.
to continue my adventure and getting my channels to play i tried all sort of tests:

* NFS & SMB
* tried local database
* tried a new mysql database.
* tried an older PTVL

so i created a new settings2.xml with only 2 TV genre.
the israeli shows i have in XBMC where created manually by me so i created a tvshow.nfo and put
<genre>Hebrew Shows</genre>

then in settings2.xml i put tv genre -=> Hebrew Shows.
but it seems that most of the channels couldnt populate this way.

then i thought maybe its because i use 2 words in the genre so i replaced it to Hebrew_Shows - still nothing.
then i remembered that NFS doesnt really like UTF-8 so i removed all the custom hebrew shows from the DB and rescraped it but this time using SMB only for the hebrew shows.

this time all of my channels populated.
the generic movies and TV shows that use built in xbmc genres or playlists worked.
the custom channels (Hebrew Shows, Hebrew Oldies , Live music Shows) are in SMB.

so it may be a combination of custom genre and NFS.
i dont know if this means anything to you but if it does, it may indicate something that may be resolved in your code.
and really thank you for all your patience. everyone here is more than happy to help. a real community

**EDIT**

i moved the same ptvl (Plugin and addon_data folder) to a gotham openelec and it started to freeze during population
the same settings (same profile) is working under windows xbmc.

another thing i noticed is that under openelec, a folder channel will build with only 5 out of 200 files
and under windows i will get the full 200.

are there soo many different issues between PTVL on windows and openelec?

LOL, only reason "stacking" was added as a feature was because users hated seeing "..." in the EPG.

I decided to run autotune without any alterations to see if it runs without freezing. It has been running for a few hours already without incident, I will leave it running overnight. If it is still fine in the morning I will know for sure it is something I added to the settings2. I can then tweak it bit by bit till I have it how I want it. Thanks for helping me identify the error, I would still be running around in circles Blush
