just got this "ALTERNATIVE NUC....SOUND PROOF" 4 days ago:

Case is great.
Looking for a similar, but with the possibility to install a low-profile graphics card with a wide heatsink.
How do you power your Hard Drives on the DC version of BayTrail? I'm thinking of picking it up since a PicoPSU+Mobo is 5 dollars less than a DC version so whatever.

There's a power header on the motherboard and a cable included for attaching to drives.
I'm considering the ASRock Q1900DC-ITX, it has more ports than standard and having DC input will save space in a cramped mITX box.

Could anyone confirm or deny if a mSATA SSD will work in the mSATA port on these boards, or on any other j1900 boards? The fact that there's only specific mention of WiFi cards for it is a bit troublesome. (sorry, I'm talking about the mini PCIe socket)

There is no mSATA slot on any of the ASRock J1900 boards, not even the Q1900TM-ITX. It's very disappointing. There is only a half-height mini-PCIe slot.

Yes, that is disappointing, considering the rest of the board design is so good. I'd been planning on an mSATA SSD boot drive and a couple of data disks, all that will fit in my choice of cases, an Antec ISK 310-150. That would have been great for me, but it's not a disaster I guess. I could still get an SSD and large data drive. In the Antec, I could pull the PSU out and have an _lot_ of room for drives. Thanks for the info.
Has anyone mentioned the MSI boards...Look cheap but it does not look like there is a PCI E slot so no chance of installing a Wifi / BT card for wireless. Anyone have any other issues they know about considering the price.

J1800 dual core http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-j1800...i-mini-itx

J1900 Quad core http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-j1800...i-mini-itx

Now I own the Gigabyte dual core and did not consider the J1900 of that as they do not come with HDMI. AS Rock do offer the HDMI but are alot more expensive.

Yeap Im picking mine up tomorrow at Argos, just hope the title is a mistake as it says j1800 but then it says quadcore and in the description it says j1900!
I look forward to the review.
that has to be a pricing error or something. If it isn't that is rediculous bargain for a quad core bay trail. Scan are not always the cheapest so it might be a sign that other vendors will follow soon? these thrash Nucs at this price (N2820)

I'm excited to see what comes for you in argos goujam. Its a shame they crippled the GPU.

OMG I think it is the real deal

have a look at their ebay page

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MSI-J1800I-Int...1e8dff9102

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MSI-J1800I-Int...1e8dff912a

they both say MSI J1800I, but one says quad core and the other dual and the dual core is at a lower price. why would they have two descriptions? so it seems logical that the person writing the stuff made a mistake and that the more expensive quad core is J1900I
I just dont understand how it ccan be that cheap??
Hello,

after my bios update issue and my ddr-ram issue, I still suffer another problem with my J1800N-D2H.

The board(s) freeze with some weird entries in the syslog. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04.

Code:
Jul  7 18:17:06 Server1 vdr: [1852] frontend 3/0 timed out while tuning to channel 10, tp 212480
^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@

The entry before the crash doesn't matter. it's just to show that it interrupts in the middle of a log file line.

Yeah, you read boards. I got it replaced by Gigabyte once yet, but the 2nd board has the same problem. And I replaced every single other component of that pc. PSU, hard drive, hard drive cable and tested the ram. All other components run perfectly with another old dual core mainboard I have overe here. So it must be related to that mainboard from Gigabyte. The question is, is it linux driver related or is this model a mess?

Does anyone here use the board with linux in 24/7 mode without issues? It freezes between each and every 3rd day.

/edit: Bios version F4 (F3 didn't work either, that was installed on my first board)
I'm using the gigabyte j1800 board with openelec and have has no issues since upgrading the bios to V3. I did install Linux for about a day but reverted back to openelec as I prefer to use it just for xbmc but had not problems for the short time I used it. Could you list the components you are using with it.
