It should do (eg Netflix) because the 2019 Shield now has an actual Dolby Audio license that looks like it is properly implemented.
Personally I value Apps - auto Frame Rate Matching, like you get on the well sorted, Apple TV 4K - more vs Atmos.
Not Kodi or Shield TV related - but just to temper Apple TV 4K praise it's also worth pointing out that there is an ongoing Apple TV 4K / Netflix audio bug at the moment though. A number of (but not all) Netflix shows are playing in stereo, not 5.1 multichannel, on Apple TV 4Ks - and it's a known bug (but has been rumbling for months). I have had three stereo episodes of Mindhunter series 2 so far (one dropped briefly to 5.1 PCM) - with 3 5.1 episodes... Consistently...

CoreELEC Kodi on the N2 can do reliable auto resolution switching, letting a high quality modern 4K TV handle all the non 4K picture upscaling.

Correct, the N2 is definitely more versatile. With regard to the color space switching issue though, NVIDIA has already acknowledged it, and said a fix is coming in the next update. I’d say I prefer the AI upscaling on the Shield more than the upscaling on my LG C9 too.

Yep, assuming the content is 30fps or less, and not interlaced.
Got mine today, really impressed. Its rapid and I love the new remote.
Went with the non pro model as the Pro wasn't in stock in the UK until next week.
I like the form factor, looks good on the AV rack

I had the same problem with Mindhunter.
Is there any difference in the Shield and Shield Pro in terms of Kodi performance or is the Pro mainly for gaming?
The Shield TV is 32bit whereas the Pro is 64bit.
I'm currently testing the Shield TV but Kodi is crashing when playing 4K movies and you try and do something else like open bookmarks for them to be created.

How strange that the two devices with the same SoC are running such different Android builds. You'd kind of think they'd have struck to a single build for the range? Is this a RAM difference do you think? Does 64 bit code use more RAM than 32 bit?
(Presumably the previous versions of the Shield TV and Shield TV Pro were the same flavour - as they differed only in the presence or absence of 500GB of storage? Then the later Shield TV non-Pro was a bit smaller and lost a few facilities compared to the original launch version, whilst the Pro remained the same, based on the launch version?)
For me the 2017 non-pro shield is much more stable than the pro version. Not sure why.
The cylinder is turning out to be more of a dud more I read the reviews. Why would you compromise for more storage, RAM, performance, USB ports for 50 bucks when you are already shelling out 150?
If the YouTube user posted benchmarks are to be believed, Shield Pro seems to improve performance over previous generation by just 5% or so. Basically indistinguishable.

I am not an expert but I understand for Kodi alone Shield is better because it offers HD audio but for other apps Fire devices are better. I could be wrong because there are some other technicalities I don’t fully grasp when it comes to PQ.
In my personal opinion, fire stick 4k provides better and crisper visuals in Netflix and Amazon than the shield.
Thinking about it, why are the 2015 and 2017 versions not able to just have the software/firmware updated to do the DV, Atmos, HD-Upscaling and 4K HDR?
Surely it's more software base than hardware base, and I'm sure the upgraded chipset isn't that much different to that which is already there?
Also, wouldn't the up-scaling already built into our tv's be superior anyway?
I'm honestly not sold on this 'upgraded' version.

This is about the most honest review I have seen regarding the new AI upscaling feature......
