The original script is intend to be used with jaunty minimal.
The fixed version doesn't change anyting substantial; only the key servers. So, I believe the right is jaunty minimal.
shakes Wrote:i've used your script before and basically... IT ROCKS.
but like some others i've hit some snags lately and decided to start over....

if i use the script:
wget http://www.iamkizer.net/xbmc/script/xbmscript.sh

should it be on a jaunty minimal or karmic minimal?

and then for the install i know to just do xbmc as the user and only the basic server and OpenSSH

thanks !

I think we have been told to use the jaunty one because the other is not ready. Now keep in mind that is not my script. I'm just hosting it more or less until the Op fixes it.
Fireman, quick question I'm not sure really how to use that alsa.

I tried to run it and it gives me some command line.
Usage: unload:reload:force-unload and on, but I don't see that gui looking interface that I saw when I originally set it up.
Ok, I'm a dope. Its not "alsa mixer" its alsamixer at the command line. Wink

http://www.xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php...alsa+mixer
In alsamixer I see:

Master -- Maxed
PCM -- Maxed
Front -- Maxed
Line -- Maxed
Mic -- Maxed
IEC958 -- Light Green says :MM:
IEC958 D -- Green says :00:
IEC958 1 -- Light Green says :MM:
IEC958 2 -- Light Green says :MM:

I can't seem to adjust. Ah if you hit F1 it appears to give you a menu with instructions. Like "m" unmutes things I unmuted everything and well I have HDMI audio.
Woooooohooo, I have audio via HDMI.
If anybody uses the script I'm temp hosting keep in mind I did not use the SVN update. When I tried it yesterday it seem to break my install. I don't know if it was just something in the air or if the script had an issue. I just personally wanted to get it up on Linux for the first time since I've never tried it before.
Hello to all users of this script

I saw that my dvd-ripper is a install-option inside the script.
There is a new-release of the rippper.

http://luemmels-dvd-ripper.googlecode.co...x-0.6B.tar

The script-version is using a outdated version.

A suggestion :

Code:
"ripper")
  ssh-keygen -t rsa
  ssh-copy-id -i ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub xbmc@localhost
  sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/`lsb_release -cs`.list --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list; sudo apt-get -q update; sudo apt-get --yes -q --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring; sudo apt-get -q update
apt-get install libdvdcss2 transcode mjpegtools mencoder
  cd /home/xbmc/
  wget -O dvd-ripper.tar http://flx.me/script/dvd-ripper.php
  tar xvf dvd-ripper.tar
  rm dvd-ripper.tar
  mv dvd-red dvdripper
  cd dvdripper/ssh
  cp * /home/xbmc/
  cd /home/xbmc/
  chown -R xbmc:xbmc dvd*.sh
  chown -R xbmc:xbmc encode2mpeg
  chown -R xbmc:xbmc iso2disk.sh
  #ln -s /home/xbmc/dvdrip /dvdrip
  ;;

If you change the line :

wget -O dvd-ripper.tar http://flx.me/script/dvd-ripper.php

to the following :

wget -O dvd-ripper.tar http://luemmels-dvd-ripper.googlecode.co...x-0.6B.tar

For transcoding to H264 you have to install more packages

apt-get install libdvdcss2 transcode mjpegtools mencoder lsdvd dvd+rw-tools dvdauthor xvid4 libxvidcore4

BTW : The log-directory is not created by this kind of setup

mkdir /home/xbmc/dvdripper

Hi guys,i am a linux n00bian bigtime.
I bought a aspire revo 330 atom, i have installed windows xp and then i set up the linux minimal install and dual boot option.
I then used flxfxp's(thanks bro) script and i selected option 1, i used the 1.90 drivers and everything worked (took a long time), i then selected option 2 to install the latest release which went very fast.
Now when i reboot and log in , xbmc does not load and all i have is the... xbmc@unbuntu:~$ (at first there is an xbmc icon loading up and i then log in )

I have spent the last 3 hours reading guides etc/trying out things ,and my head is hurting ,
ctrl alt f1 does nothing
ctrl alt f2 just brings up the unbuntu login:
I am completly lost as what to do next?
Someone please help me out?
Regards
Papa
Did it work before you updated it with the Option2? When I used his script the first time it would take a while then it would never load. Somebody posted a Bandaid fix and then I threw it on my server and said it works for me when you use Option 1 and the 185 drivers.

When I used option 2 it seem to break things, but at the sametime I used the 190 drivers. So its kind of a crapshoot right now.

I can say without a doubt right now I have Option 1 and 185 drivers working. I just need to update my build, but I think I'm going to wait for the OP to either update his script or do it the old fashion way.
I just followed an earlier post which said to install option 1 then 2.
The ion in the revo is compatable with 1.90 drivers i think.
Should xbmc just load automatically after option 1 and 2 are complete?

thanks for the quick reply dude
Can i use option 2 from time to time to get the latest release ?

Will the current installed version automatically upgraded to the newest svn build ?

What can i do when the update fails or the svn has too many bugs ?

A revert to last installed svn would be a good idea, or not ?

Or it is ok to copy this 2 folders:
/usr/share/xbmc
/home/xbmc/.xbmc/

(That's all ? or anything missed?)

to a save location before starting with option 2 ?

When the update fails this 2 folders (with all subfolders) can be copied to the old location and verything reverts to the state before update takes place ?

But the option to revert to last installed version would be the greatest !!!

Thx in advance

Martin
Heck I'm trying to find a work around to update to the newer builds. I tried this
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

and well got nothing found. Being new to linux I'm sorta feeling dumb at the moment hahaha
Sorry to write again but im desperate.

Did all the steps but i just keep ending up at the same screen with xbmc@ubuntu:~$

When i reboot at first there is an xbmc icon loading up for a while and i then log in but xbmc does not load and i get the xbmc@ubuntu:~$ again.

Just can't work out what to do.

Any help greatly appreciated been at it for 12 hours now and kind of going insane.

cheers.
What I did a few times and I know it sounds bad.

1. I simply re-ran the install
2. After the install I ran the script that I uploaded to my site that contains the bandaid fix
wget http://www.iamkizer.net/xbmc/script/xbmscript.sh
3. When you run it make sure you only use Option 1 not option 2
4. I used the 185 drivers
5 I used the Flux box or whatever that desktop is

Like I mentioned up above I'm not sure if the Option 2 is broke or not, but when I tried it my install died and it was well kinda worthless on my Ion.
