(2016-03-29, 06:46)Ichabod Fletchman Wrote: [ -> ]I am liking Estuary so far. I have found a couple of things for improvement though.
First is the media buttons. The current buttons appear too 'sharp' and the stop button is a bit too large.

I have made the buttons more rounded as to match Kodi's icon style. (keep everything uniform).
There is also the side bar with the sharp media buttons. I can make icons for them if you would want to use them in the skin.
Everyone is free to use and modify these icons, here is the .psd file: http://bit.ly/21Qn2GP

Looks like the rounded buttons got added a couple days ago Smile

If you have (or someone else has) time for it, I installed the nightly today and found some more pointy things in the skin that might be better rounded for consistency.
1. The two arrows in the bottom bar when viewing a video (picture attached)
2. The arrows in the menu, there are five in the attached menu screenshot (4 white, 1 blue, picture attached).
3. The arrow/gear combi in the left bottom of some option screens (picture attached)
4. The favourites star at the bottom left of the home screen.
5. The gear at the bottom left of the home screen (and at the Advanced button in menus).

Overall, I do have to get used to the combination of 90 degree angles and rounded elements in this skin. Maybe it would be more elegant to use the same curvature as the Kodi logo for all the corners. The menu corners, the bottom bar, the progress bar, etc. But I'm not a graphical designer, so don't take my word for it.

I have two unrelated feature requests (don't quite know if both are Estuary related, or Kodi itself):
1. Is it possible to move the subtitles up when the bottom bar is on screen? Right now it blocks the subtitles quite badly (picture attached).
2. While playing a movie, when I let it play in the background and click the same movie again (which happened by accident, now the movies are directly on the home screen), Kodi asks if I want to start at the beginning of the movie or resume from the point I initially resumed from (so not the point I'm currently at). Can it be made it just goes fullscreen when I select the same movie or maybe Kodi asks between starting at the beginning or just going fullscreen?

Thanks, I'm glad you like the new icons. I am in the process of making some more and any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
I did actually remake (rounded) the favourites and settings icons on the home screen, but because of the scaling for different screen resolutions, it gets hard to see the curve. I tried to curve it more, but the icons started to look to blobby and not as easily recognisable.

But, please send through any icons you think may need improving.

As for the subtitle issue, I only work on icons, so I can't help you there sorry.

Thanks for the (very quick) reply. I edited my post quite a bit before I saw this reply :p If you could change my quote that would be awesome. I also added an extra screenshot.
The two feature requests (the subtitle and the current movie resume) are indeed not icon related, I'm not even sure whether it's handled in Estuary or Kodi itself. Maybe I should post them elsewhere?

As for the favourite icon, I think it should still be recognizable with a bit fatter extremities.

Thanks, for the feedback. I will make up some more and try the rounded star again.
I'm not too sure where you should be posting your feature requests, to me they both sound like Kodi Core; but I could be wrong (i'm not a developer).

I posted my subtitle and resume requests in the Feature Request forum as well: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=268162 Smile

I do have one question that I'm quite sure is Estuary (but not icon) related and not Kodi Core:
1. Shouldn't Estuary honour my "default select action" when I select a movie on the home screen? I set it to "show information". This works in the movie list, but on the home screen it just starts the movie.

I have rounded the favourites and the settings icon. Let me know what you think.
I think flat grey-colored context menu doesn't match the skin stile.

I like the star icon, it's rounded but still clearly a star/favourite button Smile

I'm not a big fan of the gear icon, but that's because I wasn't a fan of the old one. I think it has too many teeth (teeth? English is a 2nd language) too close together. There should be more space between them to see the inner circle of the gear. I think less teeth would make such a small icon easier to recognize.

Examples (the second is the Android setings icon I believe):

yeah you cant use the android one. probably best to leave the one we have its a good thing its not the same Smile

I agree, the current Icons suits Estuary more. I prefer the original one, the rounded kind of looks like a flower.
I don't actually make the final decision for the icons, I make them and send them to phil65, then he decides weather they can be used or changed in any way.

I do appreciate the feedback though. Helps design decisions.
the osd ones really needed the update they just looked way better, but i think the rest looks ok Smile

That's right, I'm mainly going through some of them and cleaning them up as some have jagged edges or are blurry.
Most of them I make the same but make them clearer and sharper.
sounds good Smile

I think it's weird to have a settings button that looks like a flower :p I believe that makes it's function less clear for new users.

I quickly put together what I think is a more recognizable settings icon, it's just 2 circles and 6 rounded rectangles 60 degrees apart. 8 teeth is also possible, but I think the teeth should (almost) be narrow enough to fit in the indents. It would need some tinkering, but I think the general idea is clear.
I pasted it in your previous icon image, what do you think?

Nice, I like it Smile
It's clearly a gear and the amount of teeth is then just a matter of taste. I like 6 a bit better, but I like 7 as well.
